To be used on a cpu cooler what is the best / most powerful 120mm fan noise doesnt really matter as it will only be cranked up when benching

Not if you want the most powerful or the best, no. 38mm dominates, especially on heatsinks.

If you want to limit yourself to 25mm, the noctua P12, scythe s-flex or akasa apache are the available options.

I got 2 x delta fan 38mm as these are very very loud with 4000RPM. But, a push-pull of 2 x 4000RPM = 8000RPM cannot fit the H50 because of restrict to 25mm fan only.

Yes, watch out your fingers on the delta fan.

If it is being used on a v8 then you would get better results from buying a heatsink that is suited for i7 and not lower heat dump chips like socket 775. For example the Prolimatech Megahalem or Titan Fenrir. Changing to a better CPU cooler will make more of a difference than a fan upgrade, especially if you overclock your chip.

Whoops, 250mm, could mount it on a side panel. That lian li going to end up as an airbus:D

I've messed around with the delta ocuk sells before, it's interesting to experiment with but as a long term solution it is just too damn noisy. Couple of noctua P12s on a true or megahalem or go watercooling, you can get similar performance with much less noise.

Interesting quote there my friend. excuse my noobness on this but could you explain this a little better for me please "lower heat dump chips like socket 775"

Yes I was looking at swapping out the fan in the v8 but if the general census is change the cooler entirely perhaps thats where I should be looking .
What difference in temps would I be looking at if I swapped out to a Prolimatech Megahalem from my v8 do you reckon. Dont get me wrong my temps arent really bad BUT I have seen them as high as 65 on standard clock with 100 % load.
So if I am going to get busy overclocking this chip I reckon I need to sort the cooler first, I wont be going watercooling as I have no intentions of looking for world record clocks but I would like a nice cool 4 gig though.

i7 has a large heat dump, as in, it produces a lot of heat quickly and so will need a cooler that can dissipate the heat as fast as it is produced which the v8 can not do since it is not made for i7. The temperature differences will vary from chip to chip but you will notice a substantial decrease in temperatures if you upgrade to the megahalem and have push/pull. You can also fit 38mm fans on it so you could get 2x deltas if you really wanted ;)

I had done it once. With a push pull fans of 2 x delta with the megahalem with 2 x 38mm fan clips from ocuk. But, it too loud for me, up to 8000RPM but does a great job of overclocked my 4.2Ghz at 1.31vcore with 8 threads enabled and temperature at idle were amazing low at 27C, 26C, 24C, 23C and full load with IBT (maximum stress level) with 30 times running and maximum temperature was very low as 58C, 56C, 54C, 52C. Below 60C !!!!! but it too loud for me and my wife. So, I change to H50 and lot better.
