I'll only recommend a BMW when the OP specifically asks about them or when somebody else suggests them. Anything more is just too much hassle on this forum :)

Humor me then, would a BMW be advisable in this case?

Edit, missed your last post

Provided he is prepared to accept higher than average running costs and less than pristine condition on account of the age involved yes, £5k is sufficient money to buy a reasonable 3 or 5 Series.

Thing with repairing the Saab is a replacement engine is £800 + £300 fitting then I might find the turbo was damaged by a chunk of piston going through it. I can't justify spending half the value of the car or more repairing it.

Normally a repair or service costs me just the parts at trade price, and as my dad inspects any car before I buy I can normally avoid large bills.

My dad has a 130i M Sport which I'm trying to pursuade him to sell me but it isn't working so far.

As I have an irrational dislike for all Fords I can sympathise. Although I'm quite open about it being irrational and not going to change no matter how good a car they may be, strange but true!

Anyway, get an Accord Type R in pirate black!

Although I have a love for Type R's the Accord it a bit old now and I'd rather not have fwd.

I have owned 2 Integra Type R's in the past, Infact my current transport is a track prepared Inetga Si, it's so noisy I just want to be put out of my misery lol.

How about a bread van CTR..

Do they fit into budget?

Better than Toyota then, which in my experience tend to squeek and rattle after just 12 months :)

lol just because you were wrong in the other thread and i said that i drive a Corolla, you have to go trolling:/

actually my car neither squeeks nor rattles, is probably as fast as your, costs less to run, less to service...and doesnt carry that, oh no its a BMW driver stigma you seem to enjoy.

but yes a cheap yaris or similar will probably squeek a bit focus is healded as the saviour of ford, and is a much more expensive and different class of vehicle.

basically i have to ask, why turn this into a "get a ford" thread when he stipuldated he didnt want a ford. do you see me recommending a toyota here?

why do you have to bring up what i drive when all i gave the OP is some realstic advice on what is available?

do you have a really small peen? this would answer a lot.

I think he's having a confrontational sort of day :p

That said, people are recommending he gets a Ford because he's stated that the only cars in his budget will not be considered.

Not at all, I just found it confusing that your main criticism against the otherwise excellent Focus was that at 5 years old it would have a few squeeks. Frankly most cars of this type will squeek at 5 years old - I merely mentioned Toyota because I know you have the Toyota equivilent to a Focus and that my Toyota experience was particularly squeekfull.

is probably as fast as your,

I'm not getting into an utterly irrelevent my car is faster than yours ****ing contest as its not relevant - whereas the squeek thing WAS relevant because frankly I think its an unfair and invalid criticism of the Focus. Out of interest I assume your car is the rare VVti supercharged model? Because the conventional T-Sport takes 8.1 seconds to haul itself to 60mph and therefore won't trouble my crappy old barge.

why do you have to bring up what i drive when all i gave the OP is some realstic advice on what is available?

Because it was relevant, just like if I waded into a Mercedes thread and said the E Class is crap because it does 20mpg around town you'd be quite rightly able to point out that hang on, my car in the same class is no better in this regard.

do you have a really small peen?

I used to, but then I purchased a BMW to make up for this failing. Now the small peen is only an issue between me and my gf and the rest of the world thinks its huge because of my super awesome car.

ford build quality is poor, poorer than toyota. thats why i exemplified the Focus. i dont see how it was unwarranted. does the footwell leak in any focus you know of? i know of at least 2 that do! (one has a wonky idle, engine blew in another, hubs gone on 2,) i am just stating what has happened to ones that i know have been owned, locally.

Mine is not supercharged, it doesnt need to be, parkers is woefully out on 0-62 time for the T Sport. helps great for insurance purposes but ya its sub 7.5 seconds. magazine tested to about 7.0 and most gtec people or whatever its called will get under 7...

the dude clearly said no fords, no this no that. so why even bother to bring ford into it?

thats lucky for you then that you spent on a bmw.

Frankly I find the build versus Ford v Toyota to be largely 6 of one half dozen of the other. Neither are what you could call well built cars. There is no disputing that Toyota have mechanical reliability absolutely nailed but inside the cabin? Nasty plastics and poor quality bits of trim everywhere. Mk1 Focus is, I agree, probably poorer in this regard than the Corolla but the Mk2 isn't THAT bad, i'd say its probably slightly better.

Well whatever, even with those figures you're still out but frankly it doesn't matter as he's buying neither a T Sport Corolla nor a 530i so cares not about the relative performance of either.

Because irrational prejudice annoys me. If I said a spec me a luxurious 300bhp saloon thread and then said ARHGHG NO MERCZ i would expect people to think I am a tard and receommend me an S430 anyway, as it's the best choice. Then I could think hmmm, I am being a **** and look at one or still think ARGHGH NO in which case the post could be ignored.

thats lucky for you then that you spent on a bmw.

It is, isn't it. Although now my secret is out it seems it was all a waste of money. I'd trade it for a Corolla T-Sport but I dont think it would be fast enough.

Fix the Saab.

You're obviously happy with it (enough not to realize that it's Vauxhall by any other name :p), it's the cheapest option and you know the car, you know it's faults so it's far less likely to go massively wrong (which is the risk you take with any second hand car purchase, no matter how hard daddy gives it the once over ;)).

To be honest it doesn't even sound like you know what you want, but will happily shoot down suggestions of what you don't. You say fairly quick, then mention you've been looking at Diesel Accords. You say that you don't want bland, but then there's the diesel Accord. Then you say you want something RWD... which last time I checked, a diesel Accord isn't. You set a budget of £5,000 in the original post, then you drop the bombshell that you'd be happy to take out a loan of another £10,000?

Please take the Vauxhall saab argument else where, it's really far from it.

I did say in the opening post I would get a loan too.

I happen to like the look of the new Accord, it doesn't have enough power to warrant needing rwd. I could probably save a lot in fuel if I had one for just a year while other cars I like fall into my price range.
