Core i5 2.66GHz vs i7 2.66GHz review!!

So Core I3 will work on 775, Hmm id much rather stay with that then, anyone know how much different it will be to I5 and I7?


EDIT : Wait after reading it seems Intel are just rebranding Core 2 to I3??

I think I ll see what they do verse a AMD 955-965 head to head before I deicded, won't be deciding till next year through

Actually its not poor game design as to why hyper threading is not good for games as they stand.
Its the CPU logic that decides what is going to share the same core as fake and when it comes to games critical timing order can occur at times plus random variable interaction, reaction & getting the task done as fast as possible is what counts in a game which does not happen if tasks are shearing the same core as other tasks as some tasks are quickest when having a core all to themselves but the CPU logic didn't give the task a core to its self & multiple dependent parallel tasks even on free cores are twiddling thumbs waiting because the one task they are waiting on was not done as fast as it could have been because it was shearing a core with another task.

Lets hopt the P55 mobo's come in at a nice price.

I would be wanting i5 to be at least 100 quid cheaper than a i7 mobo chip and ram combo to be worth it.
 
I think i7 1366 won't be hang around much longer now as intel had stopped the top two range of i7 leaving the i7 920 as a huge popular sell.

This makes no sense, intel are rumoured/have announced that they are discontinuing with I7920/940 as the I5 will be good enough for that target market and the Extreme Editions will continue for high end rendering/work station users. Only way to get a 920 in 2 years will be too buy a Xeon X5550

Personally I think I will be buying a spare 920 soon as it will sure be a cheaper guarantee than not and being forced to buy an I5, P55 board and dual channel mem again in 2 years time if I fry my chips; unless retail I5's overclock as well as the pre production models

Don't forget though that the socket 1156 platform gets pci-e 3 before the socket 1366 does so that difference will be wiped out in future.
 
It quite scary if intel discontinued of i7 1366 socket in future mean all motherboard manufacturing might discontinued x58 board as well. What a waste of money and waste of time. Thank alots Intel for no respect for us all. I will have to buy 1 spare of new gigabyte ex58 ud5 motherboard (i wait for the new version) and buy a spare i7 920 D0 cpu processor (oem) just in case if my future motherboard or cpu is dying or damaged.

I still got a spare i7 920 C0 cpu processor (oem) in my safety box.

:confused: You are missing the point so badly and you do not need to buy a spare mobo or even a cpu.

Socket 1366 will be here for years to come and next year the boards get usb 3 and sata 3 so why you would want to buy a lesser spare one now is beyond me.

Yes, there are rumours with the good performance of s1156 cpus that Intel may cut the i7 920 from the range and leave the higher end ones but you will get to here about this in enough time to buy a i7 920 if you wanted to so pointless buying one now.

And as for Intel respect, they will not discontinue the s1366 mobo as that would upset the people who count - business, not you the home user. s1366 was always meant to be for high end workstations and business use, not home users like you.

They can charge a price premium for high end chips and I suspect that is what they will do in future.

If your MB or CPU fails, send it back under warrenty for a replacement. We''ll all be on to better thing (Sandy Bridge and 22nm process) in 2 years anyway.
