I have been having a look at UK Online at the moment as I am in a non-LLU area, and this ISP looks the business as they seem to give you Unlimited downloads @ 8mb for only £19.99 a month!

They also seem good on the tech support, with UK-based freephone support.

Is anyone else with this provider? Im hoping that someone can say if they are good or bad before I call time on my current company and make the switch over as im so tempted to enjoy unlimited speeds without a 50gb monthly limit which I have been forced to live with for a very long time now.

I'm with them on LLU, best ISP ive used, reliability and speed wise, plus I download a LOT and have received no warnings etc Plus any problems i've had have been resolved very quickly. I originally had the 8mb package but it was maxed straight away so phoned a week later and asked to upgrade to 16mb, 10 mins later connection went down and came back up at 16mb, damn good service imo.

Only thing is this is the first and only ISP i've used in my flat which is about a 2 minute walk from the exchange so get the full 16mb. How they are on a phone line thats a bit of distance I don't know.

BUMP!

Anyone? Surely someone must be using there non-LLU service.

Its either this company or ADSL24 that I will be going for, and need to have recent customer reviews of both providers before I decide on who to go along with, as I am getting sick and tired of having to keep moving from one to the other to find out which service will give me decent broadband speeds all day, everyday

I'm also curious as to what UK Online are like. I'll be losing my current ISP (Pipex) in less than 3 days and don't have an awful lot of time to scout the internet to find an ISP that'll send a good connection up here to the Highlands. It's either them or I have a look at BT/Sky. :(

EDIT: Actually I think I'll go with ADSL24. Looks like the best choice I have right now.

I'm on the non LLU service at my parents, very happy with them.
We're out in the middle of nowhere and the line can only do 3.5Mb/s so i'm on the £14.99 2Mb service for now. I download quite a lot and had no issues or speed capping to deal with. So nice not to have to think about Peak/Off-Peak.
Customer service is pretty good too.

Im due to switch to this service when my line gets disconnected in 2 months time now, I will either use this company, or ADSL24, as these seem to be the only 2 companies that do not impose a monthly cap all the time, this service gives Unlimited downloads all the time, and ADSL24 give you 60gb, with midnight-8am weekdays and all weekends unlimited.

Looking at the reviews both companies are good on the non-LLU side of things

I am looking at both of these to move away from AOL to.

The main issues for me are:
Contract Length
Initial cost

Which is why I'm going for ADSL24. 1 month contracts and no "mandatory router purchase" which ukonline seem to require.. even though I already have a DG834G router.. or can you avoid that?

Thats the same reason I am switching to ADSL24, because I dont like the idea of that "mandatory Router purchase" either, as I too have a Netgear DG834G that works perfectly happily.

1 monthly rolling contract is the other reason that sways me, because if they are no good late night or weekends when its unlimited, then I might be tempted to then go for UK Online, but if they are good & fast, then I will stay put.

Let me know if you go for ADSL24 and how you fare with them, as there are not many people around like me that have no LLU presense

Ukonline use the same backbone as Sky. All the pipes you'll be connected to are now Sky owned (Easynet).

Personally I was on UKonline several years ago before I went to UKFSN. Downloads were not a problem but I struggled with high ping times at certain times of the day. The infrastructure has been considerably upgraded since then however.

High pings was the reason I moved the UKFSN and then Sky LLU'd my exchange and the lure of 16mb for £10p/m was too great.

That was 2 years ago and Ive not regretted it for 1 minute.

I was with them for 4 years before Virgin and they were fantastic (partially because I never paid them for 3 years but that's another story).

I will definatly go with either these guys or the other unlimited weekends deal with the other non-LLU I posted about earlier, as my contract with my current provider finishes at the end of the month

Well I've been with ADSL24 for a month now. Excellent service. Zero niggles let alone complaints. Very impressed.

i used to be with UKonline. received excellent service and the full speeds of what i was paying for (8mg) until last month where my speeds drastically dropped to 0.61mbps fue to congestion on the line.

recently moved to ADSL24 and couldnt be happier with the service at the moment. good speeds and the customer service is excellent.

UKonline did have good customer service aswell until they cut me off and had to pay a £46 connection fee with ADSL24 and would have been free if it was only migration :(
