That looks suspiciously like the same ancient vice I have, except mine has no paint on it. The same 'MADE IN ENGLAND' casting though.

Probably a 'Record' vice. They are made in Taiwan now unfortunately.

I've never broken a (full sized) vice, which is amazing considering some of the the jobs I've used them for.

It is indeed a Record vice, circa mid 70s so it's done a decent service. But yeah it certainly made me jump! I had a short length of pipe on the bar, no more than 10" or so. It was f'king tight but the vice breaking was the last thing I expected.

Wishbone is still fine, joint hasn't moved a micron :rolleyes:

Would love a press but nowhere to keep one. Currently on the scrounge for one to borrow...
