I have this wind-up pocket watch which has a fault with the winding mechanism. I reported the fault to the seller and he is offering to send a free replacement. It now turns out I need to send the original to the manufacturer in Hong Kong.
The watch only cost £35 in the first place, and shipping it to Hong Kong I imagine will be ludicrously expensive won't it?
The seller says he'll reimburse the shipping cost, but it seems like a lot of fuss for something like this. I'd have to send proof of postage elsewhere to get that refund. And then wait a month for the replacement which will probably arrive when I'm not in, forcing me to pick it up from the post office 2 miles away.
And I'm about 80% confident that I can fix the fault anyway by cracking the back open and shifting one of the shafts down a notch. I've already cracked it open a couple of times and fiddled about, so I've worked out roughly where everything goes and what the problem is. I actually managed to bring it back to life for a few hours by turning the appropriate cog manually.
So what would you do? Should I email the seller to forget the whole thing? I have to confess, I do like the idea of fiddling with the insides of this watch some more.
