ASUS GTX285 Temps...

I recently bought an Asus GTX285TOP with the ML caps and was disappointed to see idle temps around 57c, but I have noticed the they idle temps are gradually dropping down over time and now a couple of days later they sit at around 47c, ambient is roughly the same at 27c..

Is this normal?, do the ML caps need time to bed in.?, there was a high pitched whine when playing crysis for a little while but that has stoppped now.

Load temps on the other hand are excellent with a max of 75c under load with furmark and occt gpu and about 60c playing crysis warhead for a couple of hours.

Your load temps are good so really your idle doesn't matter a jot.

The drop in temps could be related to the heat paste - which takes to time to reach maximum efficiency.

If it was 2c-3c I would agree that its the TIM, but 10c, no paste is that good.
I'm not worried load temps are what matter and I am well pleased with those, I'm just curious.

Hmm yeh 10 degrees is a bit much. At a loss to explain that really.

The caps are unlikely to have any kind of "burn in" period either. The ML caps aren't actually colder than any normal capacitor (afaik). They do reduce GPU temps though as they enable higher power efficiency.

I figures it out. If I run my plasma as well as my monitor the temp idles at 56c, with the plasma disabled it idles at 44c. obvious really. duh!!!!
