I have a friend who is the exact same! Will happily get drunk with me but wont break his fast

same as my girl friend. Seems a lot of "modern" Muslims drink, at least the younger generations once they have been put in a western culture. The only thing stopping them drinking is strong family bonds and the pressure of "disgracing" their family as their parents would say. Of course that's not to say all do, I still know some which don't. But out of the people I know they are in the minority.

Yep, it's strict in Saudi, from what I have been reading at least. But in Dubai (tourist area of course) it's a different story. Hotels will allow you to drink and eat within reason whenever you want. No booze until evening although that's not a problem for me. Who wants to drink in 40+ degree heat! If it was that bad we would not be having our summer holiday in Dubai next week.

They serve drinks all day in the hotels in Dubai actually. I went there in March, but would definitely never go back there I'm sorry to say. It's like an Arabian theme park/building site/ghost town with no vibe whatsoever.

I'm all totally against religion anyway, but fasting is just beyond me. Yes, it proves you can do it, but what does it *actually* prove? I could crash my car just to prove I could, but, well...

Plus fasting during the day and stuffing your face silly after dusk just makes it seem even more pointless. Is this how it was originally done or was it actually a real fast, ie no eating for a month?

I always wondered why indian people bought loads of chocolate, booze and biscuits and stuff. No other shopping. I thought, thats wierd as hell, who does that?
Then it occured to me, probably pigging out after ramadan.

Some muslims do that and a few other things but it is extremely rare to leave Islam altogather.

I also know 3 muslim ex drug dealers and they were doing stuff like cocaine etc.

Just seems to me that a new branch of islam is being formed. A western version, shall be good. Far more tollerant and willing to integrate with the natives, the people they came to live with after all. I find older generation of muslims to be very racist yet they come over here anyway.

I'm fasting too but it sucks that I work in a food place and usually get dizzy during lunch time even though I had breakfast. I'll have to ask for later shifts if I faint(again)

You go out and get lathered, so why bother with this?

No, he's posted quite a few times about going out and getting very drunk and also doing silly things when drunk. I just thought it was rather bizarre that he can quite happily brag about not following that particular tenet and yet claim that he'll quite happily try to follow this one even though it's going to be difficult for him.

I just said it was going to be hard. Muslims need to have fun too you know. :p

Far from it. Anything which harms the Human body or gives you a buzz is pretty much haram in Islam. You should know that, Asim. Just ask for forgiveness this Ramadan.
