Core i5 2.66GHz vs i7 2.66GHz review!!

I was planning on ordering my parts for my i7 build next week, but reading these reports on the i5 i think it would be stupid to buy an i7 atm (unless your doing encoding & editing etc). Think ill just stick with my Q6600 and IP35 Pro mobo setup atm, and just buy some components that i was going to get for this new build and place them in my current system, ie 275GTX, Corsair H50 cpu cooler, Corsair 850w PSU, and 120GB SSD. And wait until the end of the year, and see where the i5 stands then

So assuming i5 takes the current C2Q price point (£100-£200), I can assume that means we'll be able to see i3 come in at around £50-£100?

i wouldn't assume anything price wise until they actually show up in retail channels.

My guess is the i5 will come in at the AMD price range and sitting just under the i7 920.
With the retailers mark ups, it should be around £150-£180. Motherboards should be the same as the AM3 boards. DDR3 rams you can really save money on also due to it being dual channel only. AMD are in for a good fight, which is always good for us consumers.

September is going to be an exciting month indeed :)

Here is my guess at the retail pricing for the new chips;

Core i7-870 £430 inc vat
Core i7-860 £200 inc vat
Core i5-750 £175 inc vat
Core i5-670 £200 inc vat
Core i5-661 £175 inc vat
Core i5-660 £175 inc vat
Core i5-650 £150 inc vat
Core i3-540 £105 inc vat
Core i3-530 £95 inc vat
Pentium G9650 £65 inc vat

what custom heatsink will these use, existing?

Can get a free mounting kit for LGA1366 & LGA1156 if you supply proof of purchase for a Nocuta cooler and compatible CPU/MB; imagine that Titan, Thermaltake and Zalman et al are not far behind

Hopefully Corsair will do the same for the H50 then

sounds like a good idea...but there comes a point when you have to take the plunge, i would definatly wait for I5 now thought tbh

AM3 is phwned tbh , there is no reason to go AMD with the i5...what is AMD gonna do the next year when intel will have top performance across low end/mainstream/high end segments?

hmmmm its nt AMD vs Intel war nw ,its Intel vs Intel nw , seems i5 wil b giving sum hard time to AMD PIIs, i thnk i need to reconsider my options for upgrade(AMD PII 955 or Intel i7 920 but nw i5 :) )

Its pretty exciting but at the same time i know there's a tight price band that i need it to be in for me to spend the money, which puts doubts in my mind. Most of the articles i've read are saying the 670 will be coming in around 200 and the rest all the way down to sub 100 numbers!

Wow there speed is so closely matched. Wonder what eh average clock will be. if a lot ccan get to 4GHZ it's going to be amazing.
