Hey all,

I'm moving back home and I want to wall mount my PC screen and also get a 32" 1080p TV to watch my HD movies on from my PC. The plan is to mount my screen at normal viewing height, but then mount the 32" TV above it so I can sit back and enjoy HD movies, but so that I can enjoy 5.1 from whichever screen I've viewing.

So, what would you recommend? Have OCUK stopped doing TVs or am I being blind and can't see them?

How much do wall mounts typically cost? Wall mounting the monitor wouldn't be vital, but I'd have to mount the TV if I got one.

Thanks!

I'm going to be ordering either a

Panasonic TX-L32S10B or
Sony KDL32V5500 as they're both about £450

Think ill be going with the Panasonic though judging by peoples recommendations.

Ive got a LG 32" LG327000 that supports 1080p

however people on other forums and here are not giving it the highest recommendations.

its worth having a look however, unsure of the price of it. i got it when it was on offer for Currys.

I heard that panasonic lcds are meant to be really bad its just the plasmas that are top quality. Can anyone confirm this as otherwise I'll follow you! :)

samsungs are nice, but the sound is lacking as the speakers are under the tv and hiden but the facia.

pan lcds are fine, and get pretty good reviews.

I find that very hard to believe. I have a two years old Panasonic 32" LCD (TX32LXD600) and it's absolutely superb. Trusted Reviews gave it a glowing report (see here) and I will gladly buy Panasonic again when I finally move up to 40" or 42".

he wants or has already got 5:1 anyway so the stock speakers dont really matter, in fact because they are hidden out of the way makes this a really nice minimalist set if you do have your own speakers :)

yup already got my pc 5.1 speakers. So I'd just run a 3.5mm stereo jack to RCA to have sound from the TV tuner come out of the speakers.

Ill check out the LE32B550A. I like samsung screens, what seems to be the more favoured 1080p 32" screen at the £400 mark?

Thanks!

Just went out today with a friend and his girlfriend and we bought the Samsung LE32B530P7WXXU - a 1080p 32" screen which is £400 on the high street

Very very impressed with the picture. The sound isn't bad either IMO

Oooh very nice. How well would it wall mount?

Strange question, but my bedroom is above the garage. I live in a typical 3 bedroom house, so imagine my room as the size of the garage. Would a 32" screen be too big for a room that small?

Running a 3.5mm stereo jack from the tv won't give you 5.1 sound. You need a tv with an optical/coaxial output and a set of speakers that are controlled with a decoder box that decodes the DD/DTS 5.1 signal. For example the logitech z5500.

Can you squeeze up to a 37inch panasonic plasma screen ? I would take that over any of the LCDs mentiond in here.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I understand that it only provides stereo sound, but isn't the freeview that these TVs provide only 2ch anyway? The only sources that are 5.1 are the DVDs/digital video files and games etc that are on my PC.

If not, like you say, I could use a SPDIF or coaxial with my 5.1 Z5400THX which has a built in decoder.

Not so sure on the size but it should be fine if you're about 6 feet away or so

It should be fairly easy to wall mount as the holes for the mounting bracket are already there
