... on a photo mission. I'm a local, so know a few decent spots for the sea, piers and sunset.

Thing is, I've never really gone out specifically to take photos. Anyone got any particular hints or tips?

Get down to the rock pools early and check the tides beforehand, don't want to turn up with them completely covered. I will be doing that as soon as I get my wide lens repaired and a decent tripod.

Oh, and don't forget where the nude beach is... walking along there with a camera will probably not end well :D

Well, that didn't quite go to plan. We went to see the Vulcan at Shoreham Air Show, then headed in to Brighton. It was around 16:40, so we decided to drive along the coast, and got as far as Birling Gap, near Eastbourne. We could have stayed and got sunset photos of the cliffs and sea, but I really wanted some pics of the piers. We drove back to Brighton, and as we got to Medeira Drive it was mobbed. There was nowhere to park and the boy racers were acting like muppets as usual. The sun wasn't going to be setting over the water, and it didn't look like a great one. We decided to keep heading west in case things improved. They didn't, so we had a nice drive back through Worthing, out the other side, and back home.

Not a single pic taken, so an epic fail on that front, however it was a reasonable day out. Better luck next time...

You should have just stayed in Eastbourne and got pics of that pier instead.

I have had days where I have been uninspired and not taken a signle photo. Most of my photography now though I go specifically with something in mind, so I go there, get the shots I want, and leave. I don't usually carry my camera just on days out.

Birling gap, beachy head, and that whole area is probably one of my favourite places at the moment, not just for photos, but in general. Had my first kiss with the girl I am seeing up on the cliffs as the sun went down as well, so that might be another reason I like it there ;) :p

Should go to Seaford and up to the coastguard cottages, you get a great view of the seven sisters cliffs and the cuckmere valley.
