Im thinking of switching to an i7 setup soon, im gonna go for an x58 sli board, i currently run a single gtx 280 on my current thermaltake toughpower 750w psu, ill be picking up a second gtx of a mate, wondering if the psu will be ok with 2 of theese cards.

90% sure the psu will be fine

Bit worried about cooling though, 280gtx are hot. How're you planning on getting enough cold air to them?

My current single gtx idles at 37c on auto fan setting in my akasa eclipse 62, ive got 2 intake fans that can run upto 2000 rpm on the front of the case, but ive looked at the arctic cooling accelero gpu cooling units, which seem pretty good, if i switch to i7 im considering going with watercooling for the cpu to start with, then as i learn the ins and outs maybe add graphics cards.

Aye, but if you put another 280gtx next to it that's going to change. Reminds me that I need a kama bay, do you think you'd sell yours if you go to water?

Oddly I went graphics card first, then cpu later. Shouldn't have bothered, watercooling really isn't very tricky. Fairly steep learning curve and it's important to leak test, but its not really any different to fitting air coolers to things.

Aye the gtx 280's under load generate a lot of heat jon, as for the kama bay, if i go to water cooling id probably stick the kama bay in my other ecilpse (pic below) it currently houses 2 dvd drives and 2 vantec vortex hdd cooler units housing 2 36gb raptors in raid0, the raptors are extremely loud as i found with 2 of the 74gb versions in my main rig, performance was astounding but the noise got on my nerves lol.

I think it's pretty funny that you've got two computers in these cases. Sensible place to move the kama bay to. I'm reluctant to pay full price for one before I'm certain if it'll fit, I should find the drawings online really but dont seem to have bothered to.

Raptors are very loud. I used a guj case for my one, which was amazingly well built but didnt do leds or buttons. Sold both when I moved to ssd, don't think I'm going back to raptors.

I think you should keep an eye out on mm for 280gtx blocks. I think the ek ones fit 260 or 280 so are cheaper and more likely to be on offer. Everyone has their favorite I suppose, but ek blocks are mine.

Had a thought re psu. How good are the thermaltake psus? I'd be completely confident running two 280s and an i7 on my pc power and cooling, but I have an instinctive distrust of anything with thermaltake written on it

Regarding the thermaltake psu jon, i done a lot of reading up on the toughpower series and discovered that my thermaltake toughpower and the corsair tx 750w are the same unit, both are made by a company called channel well tech, once you go below 600w with thermaltake psu's reliability can be a problem as theese lesser units are made by another company. Heres a pic of the kama bay in situ jon, slight gap between it and the blu ray drive,(im not the best photographer either lol) hope it gives you an idea.

Ah. If its channel well I'd put complete faith in it. No worries.

Its not tht direction Im worried about oddly, its how far back into the case it reaches. There isn't very much space with a radiator mounted in the top, and I fear the tabs used to screw it into the case will intefere with the radiator. However I can probably take a stanley blade to it if required, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Looks nice with the white fan behind it. Cheers for the photo

The tabs that hold it in place jon are about 2 inches long iirc, very thin steel, just screws in the same as a 5.25 drive.

Ah, that is good. Thin steel will fit either side of the radiator with no problems at all. I was worried it would be thick plastic tabs. Cheers man

Aren't we awake at stupid times :(
