Hi

I'm planning on doing an upgrade soon, and wondering which RAM I should get, planning on get Core I7 975
Gigabyte GA EX58 - UD5
Geforce 295 GTX SLi

Which RAM ????

Thanks

Hay

More important than what ram, is what cooling.

The current processor will clock almost identically to the 975. Unless you're going well under ambient all you're doing is ****ing a grand up against the wall. Since you currently have a rather poor clock on the 920 I suspect you are not part of the phase/peltier crowd and would therefore be spending a grand on exactly the same performance you have now. What's the point?

Similar arguments for the second 295gtx. Quad sli is not going to help much over one of the cards, and the new generation of graphics cards is out very shortly which makes it the worst investment possible for a computer.

Cannot recommend which RAM ???? without some idea of why the ocz is inadequate.

In that case the UD5 is an excellent choice. Most people on here will recommend the patriot 1600mhz, but I personally use and like the corsair 1600mhz dominator.

That processor is a very unwise buy. Just because it costs five times as much does not make it five times quicker.

A 920 at 3.33ghz is exactly the same speed as the 975 at 3.33ghz, with the slight change that the 920 will be there through bsck so have higher memory bandwidth and so perform marginally better than the 975. If he's determined to buy a monster cpu, point him at the 950. However this is still a daft purchase over the 920 D0 stepping.

Not a good idea to get a 975 unless your company is paying for it.
Get a 920 and overclock it slightly. Or just wait a few weeks for the new 860/70.

No point at all to running two 295gtx, now or in the future. Cooling it would be difficult and frame rates the same as with one.

unless your company is paying for it
The joys of having a good job. Don't think I could swing that from my one

I wish my job was like that........

I have told my friend to buy the gigabyte bundle with the 920 D0 stepping overclocked to 4ghz

Is it worth buying extra RAM to fill all slots??

Thanks for the help guys
