Fonts on some websites don't appear to be clear?...

Guys,

Fresh install of XP Pro, running IE8. Have turned off the always use clear type option, but still some sites don't look great.

Now I don't know if it's something I haven't done, or are some sites crap, or maybe it's just the way IE8 shows them?

The text on this just is not crisp at all. It looks almost as if it has a very slight drop shadow. :confused:

Any ideas or is it just the way that site is coded?

looks the same as mine, cant see a drop shadow. Sure its not your monitor?

No, I was just saying it was a little bit like a drop shadow. I guess I am crap at describing it

Funny thing is, turn ON clear type and myseriously that site looks much better :rolleyes:

Makes other sites look horrible though, especially the bolder text on here.

I remember the XP ClearType being absolutely terrible, but you can tweak it to your liking using this tool:

Yeah I saw that tool. Helps a bit, but I can't stand cleartype! Guess I can put up with the odd site not playing ball.

Personally I think the cleartype feature is great. Windows Vista/7's cleartype is supposed to be better than XP.
