xbox360 Natal video showing it in action.

I just wanna know how they're gonna implement the rumble feature. Something which makes me play more xbox 360 games than the PC versions.

Some kind of rumble-enabled probe fitted somewhere...?

The point seems to be flying over your head. If things like this prove really popular for Sony, MS and Nintendo then it will become the norm and many developers will stop making games the way we currently like them.
Well duh. Popular = Money. If people are liking it then the minorty of people who don't will have to suck it. I loved my 2600 controller once and the Nintendo 64 controller was hell for me. But people progress.

They should use the electric pads they have on big brother that will lead to some interesting gameplay :D

If rumours are to believed, the next MS console could see Natal as the main, if not the only method of control.

Thing is though, Rumors are based on opinions not facts. I'd couldn't see MS getting rid of the controller for a camera based controller. If anything they'd ship it with Natal and one controller.

Did anyone expect Nintendo to go motion control only in the days of the Gamecube?

no but nintendo always had a more child focused market

They've always focused on the family market, Microsoft are aiming at the Family market and the traditional gamers, they're trying to lead the market, They're the Middle man if you like.

They want to cater for the family market but also the hardcore gamer market. Microsoft know about the Nintendo situation imo and know that once people have the console they're not playing it as much as N expected.

Catering for everyone is Microsoft, Catering for just family experiences is Nintendo.

Well while top games sell millions of units and make developers lots of money, I'm sure those franchises will continue traditional gaming methods..

Natal as a technology is impressive, but like the Wii, it's all about the software..

For 'serious' games, waving arms/legs around for fine control is not suitable.. even the uber precise Sony wands would still require far too much 'input' then most people would want to..

Unless the world goes mad, in which case, for the next GeOW you'll have to hide behind the sofa for 'cover' and jump/roll over the top pretending to be holding a gun and shouting "Duga Duga Duga".. I just can't see it myself ;)

Theres nothing Microsoft can do to get the Wii market. They have established themselves as the hardcore gaming platform with games like Halo and Gears. Avatars and motion controls isn't going to get granny that only bought the Wii for Wii sports to buy a 360.

Anyway, I don't know why Microsoft want those sort of consumers as they don't buy games. Most people only bought the Wii for the bowling and balance board.

Same goes for Sony but they seem to be happy with just being a multi-purpose media device.

I think if Sony where happy being just a Media Device, then what are the Wands about?

I think MS/Sony want a slice of the Wii pie, plain and simple.. If anything, Sony's wands are closer to the Wii then Natal?

You can also see MS/Sony really starting to fight it out on the media front, movies on demand, media sharing, etc, etc...

And Sony's big plus, it's blu-ray ability, but it's starting to come under attack from standalones, I've got a flyer on my desk with a Sanyo Blu-ray standalone for £49.99 + VAT..

I'd say the future isn't certain for any manufacturer, and it'll be interesting to see what they do over the next year or so, as long as core gamers are still catered for, that's all I really care about :)

So you didn't watch the Milo demo then?
Yes, another tech demo showing how it works but again an application I have zero interest in using.
I still don't get why people get negative about stuff like this. If you don't want it don't get it as not having it will effect the way you like to play games. It's more interactivty than a replacement controller.
I think it depends on your perspective. It's an impressive technology with definate potential, but personally I need to see it used in a way that interests me before I get excited. I can't think of any current game that I'd prefer to use Natal over a controller, and games where Natal is the only control method don't exist yet. Until I see such games I will be neither positive or negative about it, I will remain completely indifferent.

Sorry for being specific but that's not what you originally implied.

Still waiting for a video to show why anyone would want to use this.

So far every video I've seen has been to show how it works, and has amounted to little more than jumping around like an idiot.

The Milo demo may not interest you but it is a reason why people would want to use it. You're right I don't want to wave my arms about and hit balls. However I would like to try out Milo.

Why?

It's talking to a virtual person.

And from people who have used it it appears to be heavily scripted.

Yeah even Peter said it was more scripted than AI. Just would be something I like to try out, plus the paper drawing thing was kinda cool. That's how I see Natal being used. Less like a eye toy and more Miloish.

Milo sounds awesome on paper, but I would feel kinda awkward talking to him/her. I dunno, it interests me, but as skippi said, its going to be scripted for it to actually work.

I felt like an idiot talking into my DS, not sure what I'd feel like talking to my tv. I could see something like Milo working better on the Wii to be honest.

All milo did was use some form of recognition software. By that i mean it just asked you to do things and then waited for the prompt of the person performing the action, it would then move on to the next sequence. I thought the ability to recognise a face was very impressive but people seem to tout it as something it's not, it's not an interactive computer generated boy, it's just recognising objects and motions as triggers instead of using a button. I think a large part of the reason why people are viewing it as something it's not is Peter Molyneux and his old tricks, overselling products and promising the world. He always delivers something very good, but it's always overshadowed because of the unachievable goals he promised in the early days of his projects.

Hate all this motion rubbish, if it starts getting priority over standard controllers then I foresee many people switching to PC.

You can already get pre-built PC's that spank the 360 and PS3 for £300 and they are getting cheaper every week.

If motion controls did indeed become the staple controller of consoles i would want to abandon ship back to the PC. Problem is there's sod all games that interest me on it, ok it runs Mirrors Edge and looks several times prettier, but where's the God of Wars, Gran Turismos, Forzas, Little Big Planets, Uncharteds etc etc. If motion controls take over i might just give up all together assuming the PC market doesn't steer away their primary focus from the very lucrative MMORPG/RTS genres as they aren't my sort of thing.

PC has Team Fortress 2 so I'm sorted, spanks the like of Auto Aim of Duty. :)

TF2 is good yeah, pretty much the only title i still dabble with on the PC. But alas, they've removed all the intricacies i loved in TFC, conc jumping, bunny hopping etc all gone. Whenever i play it i just think 'this is great, but i so wanna conc jump to the next balcony'.

Anyways, i've veered us off topic so i'll shut up now.
