Cancelled Flights

See at Aer Lingus we always do our best for the little people! Heathrow has had quite a few problems today, my flights were delayed as well! Not the airlines fault ;)

I'll say that yes they seem to have done a good job at getting the flight changed and keeping her happy so good on Aer Lingus! Only thing which I would have been annoyed about personally is that the only reason given for the flight not getting in the air at Belfast was due to "Technical Reasons". I would have expected a much more fuller reason for why it was not going to fly, but then that's just me! Maybe they can't say exactly why for security's sake?

Oh well, all got sorted in the end!

P.S. Blinkz - did you see the subsidence at Broadmeadow Estuary, a few more Belfast to Dublin flights surely for the next 3 months! :p

Many thanks guys for all the answers! And feeling sad? You bet, but it's an experience for her and I'd never let my sadness/selfishness get in the way it! I'm just so happy she's not going to have to stay in London for a night and that it has all got resolved.

It'll be really, really hard for you but you'll both be loads stronger as a result of you being happy to let her go. It wont be easy though.

Luckily I've only got 18 days left until the drive to Heathrow I've been looking forward to since February :D (Though I did get 6 weeks in Oz out of it!).

Air lines should be forced to pay for any losses you make due to their flights being cancelled :( It's not hard to keep a flight running, we are in the 21st century .. computers are good enough to take off themselves in bad weather

You really are hilarious, you seem to think the whole world should operate like a Swiss watch :D

Sad over something like this?

As everyone has already said, if you book it under one company/airline, they will cover the cost. However if you booked it on all different ones, they have no agreement with you to catch another flight, nor should they be expected to, to think that would be illogical. This is why you get travel insurance for the second option.

I've had many a delayed flight, but it doesn't make me gush my eyes out and bleed all over the floor. Although, If it was a flight I had to make an appointment, "Fffffffffffffu" This is why I always make allowances for things like this.

I never book things back to back and make a rush of it all.

Amazing, forbid there be any problems with a plane and they just ignore it and let it take off so people like you can be happy.

There is not one thing on this planet that doesn't end up breaking/dying/corroding/half-life/rust/wear out.

A plane has so many moving parts, many under high stress, as well as other system. Once in a while they'll spot something which will ground the aircraft, even if very, very minor. They take your safety over your travel plans.

Well we do our best to help people, customer service and all that! Unlike a certain competitor who just doesn't care!

As for the flight being cancelled, well it sounds like there was a tecnical problem with the aircraft. Its a machine remember and sometimes things on them break, just like any machine. Sometimes it can be easily fixed and sometimes it can take longer. We follow very strict maintenance procedures! There wouldn't have been much point in giving exact details of the problem, since generally this would probably cause more harm then good! (usually for people who already don't like flying!)

I live just down the road from Malahide so yea it was mad what happened to the bridge. Very lucky that no one was hurt!

He has just said goodbye to his girlfriend for a year

I think a classic case of "I read the last 3 posts of a thread and add my comment" has occurred. Thanks for the words of advice though [TW]Fox, it'll most definitely be hard, but when she comes back/I go visit, it'll be the most awesome thing I think! :D

Whatever you do, go and visit. Sell your stuff to afford it if you need to, and go for as long as you can. It makes it SO much easier.

I'm already uninsuring my sportsbike and if needs be it can free up around 3k so I'll be looking for a Christmas visit and/or join for a month or something around June time after her semester ends at her uni and my uni finished up!

A visit would be the best thing, webcam and telephone I assume can only do so much...

i spent 18 months with my now wife setting her once a month sometimes 6 weeks before we decided to move to Belgium. Chin up though it's much easier (and cheaper) to keep in touch now than it was in the 90s. :D

No reason why it couldn't.

If something breaks on plane, why shouldn't airline (via it's insurance) be responsible for messing up your plans.
