For those of you who don't drink alcohol, what does your social life consist of?

I don't drink much but decided to give it up at the start of June. I can still enjoy an evening at the pub with friends although I don't go clubbing (even when I was drinking).

Other activities including going to watch the football, playing some games, having a BBQ/dinner, playing poker. Although most of my friends will probably end up drinking during those things too...

I do drink so I'm probably not much use for an answer but you have got me thinking because it's an interesting question. I'm past the pubbing and clubbing stage of my life and tend to go out for a meal with my other half or mates instead. Even a good meal with a bottle of wine usually comes in less than a night in the pub, so take the wine out and you've got a good value night out and a full tum.

I've also noticed that the new martial arts gym which has opened above the pub is packed out on a Friday night. That's got to be a good place to meet new friends who aren't drinking.

Camping, walking, cooking.

What do the Europeans do? They don't drink anywhere near as much as we do.

That is a very interesting question. When I was in Copenhagen I felt at ease on the streets and in the bars even as a non-drinker. The yobby atmosphere just wasnt there. I saw people drinking beer like it was water but at no time did they wander around throwing bottles or starting brawls. They were actually extremely polite.

Even the super-drunk Swedes who take the hi-speed ferry from Malmo-Copenhagen-Malmo are well-behaved.

Dont get me wrong...its not like Sweden & Denmark dont have problems ever but somehow the whole atmosphere was far more pleasant than what you would get in the average UK town at 0200hrs on a weekend.

They seem to drink for enjoyment and for company. The vast majority of UK drinkers drink to go into a coma and to empty their current accounts as fast as they can.

I think its about time drunks here were charged £100 if an ambulance has to come out to take them to A&E. And charge them for treatment too. That should wake em up a bit the next time they bash in a shop window with their fist.

I dont drink because I cant but I tend to go out for meals, or have friends round for food and drink. I dont really go to pubs or clubs at all any more but I guess its because Im bit of an old fart and I just cant be bothered with that sort of thing. Luckily the other half isnt that bothered either although she does drink.

My social life is exactly the same with or without alcohol. I dont need beer in order to have fun. Nothing stops me from going to the pub with my mates, theres no requirement for me to drink alcohol.

I'm the same, I couldn't care less about getting drunk but that doesn't mean I'll say no to a night out.

I prefer to see friends away from pubs anyway though as it's easier to be actually talk (and properly socialise ;)) when you're not somewhere rediculously noisy.

i spent 85 notes on friday night and woke up in a churchyard on saturday mornin, so i'm stopping drinking for a while. i've done it before, i just went to all the same things i normally do, but didnt drink

HOWEVER the clubs i go to are ones where i like the music for its own sake....

i'm not completely teetotal but i hardly drink. Granted I don't have much of a social life because a lot of my friends just want to go pubbing or clubbing all the time but i'd rather spend my weekends actually doing something instead of sleeping off a hangover.

Last year I gave up alcohol for 3 months. Purely because I realised i was drinking too much so i wanted to "detox" a bit. Alcohol would make me feel more confident when I was out so on the first night out I was very shy around certain people but by the end of the evening I realised i'd been worrying about nothing.

I can happily have a good time completely sober.
I don't get out of the house much but I'm hoping to start horseriding soon and ballroom/latin dancing. (may sound boring but have you seen some of the latin dance moves?! very sexy ;))

I do try to go and see a movie or go bowling and sometimes my family and i all take a trip to the coast for some lunch.

There are quite a few things I want to do and places I want to visit so i'm hoping at some point I can get around to actually start ticking them off the list!

As others have said though, hobbies are the way forward :)

My girlfriend doesn't drink and she has no problem at all with going out, she just enjoys being with people she likes and knows :)

As others have suggested try getting more hobbies, preferably one that doesn't cost anything :p...But obviously that's harder nowadays just to how the world is.

Could always go cycling every so often etc

To be honest, being in a serious relationship and not drinking pretty much rules out clubbing as the only 2 reasons I can think of going would be to get drunk and pull women.

I think I need an outdoor hobby. It's really the fact that I don't have any reason to leave the house rather than I don't have any friends. My main hobby is MMO's, whether or not that is a bad thing I don't know but for me they're far more interesting than most other hobbies. I just feel like I should be more productive with what I do but then again it's what I enjoy.

Meh, that's the thing, most people nowadays involve going to clubs as just reasons to 'pull' rather than because they enjoy the music.

I go away for weekends just for a party sometimes purely because I enjoy the music there, but each to their own :)

Dance music and pop music aren't something that interest me and I don't know of any hip hop clubs around here.

Having no car at the minute definitely doesn't help matters as I can never be bothered walking anywhere when I come home from work.

I stopped drinking when I was 19 and haven't looked back. It's a cliche but you do get a little drunk off an atmosphere. I sometimes bump into people who say they saw me out and I was plastered - it's funny to see their reactions when I tell them I was sober but just having a good night, like it's impossible to have fun sober or something!

Haha thats happened to me as well.

Kinda cool to see that there are a number of non-drinkers on here....thought I was the odd one heh :)
