Ok, well I have 220 ucas points - Business A2 = C
Media A2 = C
Law AS = E
Politics AS = E
Key skills level 2 = 20 ucas points

Im wondering, is there any decent courses which will accept 220 because I want to go nottingham on trent but they are after 240 for most courses so im guessing they wont accept me right?

cheers?

Have you tried calling them? I remember when I had just got my results a few people got in to places with less than the required points.

Worth a shot.

I reckon they'll except you through clearing, you'd be suprised just how many decent Universities accept some not so great results through clearing.

However you should have been on the phone the day your A levels came out to get the best places.

Why have you left it this late?

I don't really understand how all these points work etc as I never went to uni, but shouldn't you find a course you want to do and find a way to get on it (if it be via an access course or something) rather than just trying to get on any old course that you can just about get on to or just because it's the uni you want to go to because you're friends are.

no no, its not for this year, im talking about next year sorry..

What would be the best option for next year? Call them up and ask if theyll accept, because surely they wont if I apply with less than the expected grades..

Well if you have a year maybe look into retaking a few of them?

something to do with business most probably, or business and property? I cant go back to college this year, is there anyway I could retake a subject from home without paying stupid priceS?

If it is for next year. Thinnk about what you want to do in the future and if that course is right/beneficial for you. From there give them a call and see what can be done to guarantee you a place. Most likely will involve you taking a course or two up until then but if it will guarantee a place then it is worth the effort rather than just crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. :)

EDIT:// When you say you can't go back to college do you mean full-time or what? as I'd of thought a night course would be good here, if not due to work see if you can get day release? :)

Cheers benji. Well im going to be working full time trying to gain a bit of money, and i dont really want the hassle of going all the way to college to retake a subject I didnt even enjoy.., not saying I wont retake but might do it from home. Also, I cant even get into my college as its just been rebuilt and is 100% full.. I will call up the university and see what they say..

Cool, Am sure once you speak to the uni they will give you the answers you need and point you in the right direction. Sorry I can't be of anymore help, just my knowledge of how it all works is rather limited.

Good luck though :)

Hi there,

I had 220 UCAS points, and managed to get onto the Business Management & Marketing course at trent without any hassle, I took a gap year aswell. I think the course Im on was 240 points. I heard that they lowered the points to 160 in clearing to get more students in. Turned out they had too many but kept them on anyway beacuse they need the money for all the building work thats going on around uni!

Im sure they'll let you in if you ring them and explain even if you do work for a year.

managed to get on my intended course at my intended uni with waaaaay less than i needed, obviously if the bbc is to be believed this year thatll be a bit harder

cant remember my points but got in with only 2 A2s, 1xB, 1xD, and an AS C (gen stud not included) admitedly i did quit after a year as i was bored out of my skull but i guess it depends on how many spots they need to fill if they havent filled it with students who meet the general requirements

When I worked for a year, I gained some experience with management & marketing (at tesco) and got my manager to write my reference on UCAS instead of my college tutor. Seemed to be fine for me. Hope that helps.
