Walked into my local off-license with 7 quid in my pocket looking for some cider. 6 cans of strongbow at £7.16 or 8 cans at £6.99. My uni degree can even take into account quantities of scale distribution, but how in the heck can 8 cans be cheaper than 6???

Yeah yeah strongbow I know, fed up with wine right now though.

Slightly relevant but at the newsagents i work in the small orange lucozades are like £1.10 and bigger bottles are like £1.30, and the 1L bottles are £1..

Every so often my local Sainsburys does 2L coke bottles for £1, while leaving the 500ml ones on sale for their usual £1.09 or something :p

We had that in our shop the other month - special offer of 1L bottles for £1 or the normal size bottles at normal price for £1.19 or something. We sold a lot of 1L bottles haha :D

Those products are in two different markets though. You buy a 500ml bottle for instant consumption whilst you buy a 2L bottle to go in your fridge. If you want a drink there and then, perhaps on your way en-route to somewhere else, perhaps whilst on public transport or to drink in the park, you're not going to want a 2L bottle. You're paying for convenience with the 500ml bottle.

I personally would prefer to save money and lug the 2L bottle around with me :p

????? (Adult language warning) Cheers Rainmaker.

The link referenced a scene in Twin Town on youtube. Coke (cola) instead of cider

joey, you'll get a holiday posting that mate. I suggest you edit the link out ;) Oh, and I buy 2 litre bottles anyway. Its a bonus when they're on offer (eg £1). Who on earth would find a few hundred mils sufficient refreshment? :D

It's always at £1 though lol. And nobody really sees it because it's not where the drinks thing is.

The big bottle has no VAT. The small ones do.

Really? Bit odd, but fair do's. That would explain why.

Are students no longer enjoying the delights of the 3 litre bottle?
