Just trying to find out a bit about these, local company has gone under and it's a company car up for sale (along with a derv Vectra  ) and I'm lost to be honest, Parkers doesn't have anything, Autotrader is saying 3.9 seconds to 60 off of 280bhp which doesn't sound right.

Anyone got any info about them, ownership stories etc...?

depends if its the 3.3 or the V8..

i think they're great cars.
probably not a lot more to run than a standard 5, but i doubt it'll be cheap :p

Whats it up for?

Dont know anything about them, just curious :)

No idea, it was on a flier left on my car advertising all this stuff being sold off dirt cheap. I've texted the number to ask.

I'm curious as well as it just clicked I know literally nothing about any Alpina model apart from they are some sort of tuned BMW.

what sort of advice are you looking for, running costs, pricing?

there's a bunch on pistonheads..
http://pistonheads.com/sales/list.a...=&y2=&txt=b10&px=&filter=TP&o=p&Submit=Search

alpinas are a sort of more refined M, if you could put it that way.
not as quick or powerful as the M cars, but slightly more luxurious

Not looking for advice as per say, just because generally I doubt I could afford to run one. Just more looking for info and stuff about them, considering I know nothing.

The B10 3.3 has 280bhp and is a 6 cylinder. It has the sharper, better rack and pinnion steering from the 6 cylinder E39's. The B10 V8 has an Alpina tuned 4.6 litre V8, and the B10 V8S has a 4.8 V8.

It'll be a 3.3 or a V8S if its on an 02 plate.

It's a Gentlemans M car. Alpina's are based on SE's, so the styling is more restrained.

Link to the advert? How much is it advertised for?

Cheers, basically what I was after :)

No linky as it was a flyer put on my car windscreen today.

A 'Short Notice Clearance Sale' apparently, selling the two cars, PCs, TFTs, Servers, Projectors, Desks, Chairs, Filing & Storage Units and more. Got a picture of the car (it's silver) but number plate was blured out.

So if it was a 3.3 would you be looking at basically the same sort of running costs as a 530i?

No, it costs more to run than a 530i. Some of the parts are bespoke and you often get BMW dealers being fussy about servicing them. They shouldn't be, but some are.

Almost all are Switchtronic. Very nice cars. I've been tempted before but I think the styling is a bit subtle with it being SE based :(

Hmmm yeah all the ones I can find seem to be autos. I may send a text and just enquire as there is a mobile number given.

Can you not M Sport them up or is that against the whole Alpina thing?

You don't buy an Alpina and then fit an M Sport bodykit. It's just not the done thing! They can also be a pain to insure. Some insurance companies specifically exclude them. They are very much an enthusiasts choice - it's not the sort of thing you buy because it looks like a good deal, if you just fancy a BMW a regular Sport model is probably a better choice.

Just checking :p

Anyways like I said it's gonna be out of my league in terms of running cost so was more a find out info thread.

I have already pretty much set my sights on my next new car, but it won't be purchased till July 2010 (when I turn 21 and my placement year at Uni finishes so I'll have the monies to spend) so it's always interesting to see whats on offer and available.
