Hi think am going insane:confused:
After replacing my Motherboard because of a graphics error from my old MB(onboard graphics) I cant boot from my IDE HDD after doing a fresh install of Windows 7, Left MB to do its job not changed a single thing in Bios, it shows up on post first boot device even from the boot menu it still refuses to boot into windows from my HDD(which shows up as (D) and reverts to boot from my sata DVD Disc
checked the HDD for errors using windows repair no errors
Replaced PSU
Tried the same with an other IDE HDD same problem
Replaced ribbon with new
Popped the Batt out of MB to reset cmos
Tried different Ram
specks
AMD sempron single core LE-110 .. old I know
MB bought from here .http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-021-FC&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1483
Ballistix tracer 1066 ram
IDE HDD
DVD rewriter sata
PSU 350 watts fairly new
This little job has put years on me please help!

That'll be the cause.
Set the BIOS to boot from the correct device first. Being listed first on the POST screen is not the same thing.

Ive loaded Vista and Seven and both load normally from my DVD No problems there in the final stages of installing you know the part were it says (thats all we need from you write now Windows will restart numerous times) but after restarting it fails to boot from HDD then proceeds to boot from my DVD all over again and again if it could,
It will not boot from my HDD what ever i try .. including boot menu,
My HDD apears ok although quiet tried another 2 IDE drives same make one was spinning faster than the others,They just wont boot any of them,
Not showing any Errors at all

Thanks for the quick replies;)
Am tempted to go out and buy a new Sata HDD apart from the CPU its the only thing i haven't replaced
Dont know what to try next:(

Odd... if it was a faulty IDE port on the mobo then you'd expect not to get very far with the install.
When the HDD shows up with a drive letter D, what is displaying this?
I'd double check all the bios settings to make sure the boot order is correct and that the IDE ports are enabled and aren't set up for raid or anything odd, and that there are no devices set to emulate HDDs that could mess up the boot sequence.
As another shot in the dark, did you install windows to the whole disk? (I.e. there aren't any boot loaders like grub or lilo and stray partitions knocking around are there?).

Ok just fitted new HDD Sata and every thing seems to be responsive so to speak instead of hanging in AMD screen menu it posted straight away and I know Have CMOS checksum error quote .. (Warning! Now system is in safe mode. please re-setting CPU frequency in cmos set up) .. anyone got any idea what this means or is it a simple bios update as my CPU is an old single core jobby

My DVD is sata maybe thats why it let me install and my HDD partitions were deleted by myself during the window install,I just popped in the in the installation disc and selected repair windows repair on the installation disc and it checked out fine with no errors it was showing up as drive (D) so i take it D is the DVD drive not C its all getting confusing i need some sleep:confused:

Which hard drive? Seems like you've tried at least 3 in this post.

Maybe read the manual for the motherboard and set the BIOS up properly, then save it and exit and all should be fine.

I did try 3 but they came out of a pc retrieved out of the skip at work after the place had a Pc refurbish (just to see what hardware it had inside inside) note they were all IDE and none booted into windows after a fresh install,
Its sorted now after fitting a brand new WD sata HDD cost me £30 but my sanity is restored cheers anyway s
Davy:):)
