Champions Online Beta

To buck the trend I am actually enjoying it. The tutorial zone goes on for quite a bit but once you get to the Powerhouse you start to get an idea of just how customisable it is. Not to mention if you have the cash it seems you can completely change your character, I respeced all of the powers of one of my guys from Munitions to Archery just to see if I could!

Combat is reasonably fast paced with energy management being the key skill it seems. Got very confused when I picked up and slotted what I thought was a normal item and it then went and changed how several of my powers worked and gave me a new look for my pistols.

Graphics take some getting used it, cell shaded but works for the 4 colour comic book style they are trying to emulate.

I'm with you - really enjoyed what I've seen so far. Character creation was outstanding (only to be expected) and I enjoyed the tutorial zone. The missions are cookie cutter MMO type stuff as in kill this, find that etc. so far, but that's not a bad thing if you're enjoying doing it, as I was.

I also really like the cel shaded world and high contrast art style.

As for the combat, once you get used to the mechanics there's nothing that makes me dislike it so far. It's a variation on the typical MMO theme, except that you use certain skills to generate energy to fuel more attacks.

Obviously we won't know how good the game truly is till we see the later content, but initial impressions got a thumbs up from me :)

im liking it...COH2 and i spent a lot of time on that.
have tryed a lot of mmorpg's and the super hero genre seems to be the only one i stick at.

lets set up a super team/ equivalent when it goes live!!

unless it's called Bikini Bandits im out

the further i get into it the better its getting...a lil bit rough round the edges but playable, compare this with tabla rasa and there is no comparison.
will be interesting to see where they go with this!

Is everything instanced? Not sure what to make of it at the mo, think im gonna skip it.

It's going to be 1 big server at release with many different instances. As they want everyone from all over the world to be able to play together it's the only way to do it. They're still trying to find the right size limit for each instance, 200 was too much as crap loads of people were trying to do the sme objectives so they lowered it to 100.

Yes, they seem to be finding it difficult, and I cant blame them. 200 was far too many (at least while most people were at the same kind of levels). People were just camping at the spawn sites, and it would take ages to do quests. However, now that it has been reduced, in a place as large as the desert and MC you rarely see everyone. It is also difficult to find anyone to team up with.

Did anyone play the last night of Open Beta last night?

They invaded Millenium City, with a trainer on-site to bump you up to Level 40... was gutted i didn't get to play more than a few minutes :(
