I've had my Herman Miller Embody for a week now so I thought I would give you a review on it.

A few months ago I decided it was about time I bought a new chair. I started looking into your run of the mill chairs down Staples and the usual haunts. I was going to spend around £100 pounds. I then started thinking maybe I should buy a decent chair since my existing chair might be the sole cause of my ongoing back problems. Also, I sit in a chair for 12 hours a day do I really want to skimp on a chair?

My next problem. What chair do I buy? There are so many on the market. I looked into the Human Scale, SteelCase and many others. I heard good things about the Herman Miller Aeron. When I seen the price I thought wow that is expensive. After reading many reviews of the Aeron and sitting in my friend's Aeron this was the chair for me. That was until I was in Cheltenham where I visited a Herman Miller dealer. There I tried the successor to the Aeron, the Embody. After sitting in the chair and playing with the adjustments I was convinced this was the chair for me. I have to admit the Embody really is the business nothing comes close. I've never sat in an office chair as comfortable as this.

There are a variety of options when you order the Embody not as many as the Aeron. They decided this chair is a 'one fit, fits all' not like the Aeron. I went for the graphite base, black cloth and wheel castors. I ordered the chair back in June so there's a bit of a wait. Anyway enough of my rambling here are two pictures: -

Here is a review (not my review just in case you were interested): -

An interview with one of the designers Jeff Weber. Sadly the other designer Bill Stumpf has passed away. Jeff and Bill were responsible for this and the Aeron chair: -

A introduction video from Herman Miller themselves: -

When I was in Hong Kong airport it looked like all of the chairs behind the check in desks were Aerons, must have cost them quite a lot

which one is your review ?

Sorry I thought it was obvious. The first few paragraphs is my review.

"Buy cheap, buy twice", "What price your spine?", etc...

Great choice, RockLobster, and in a good sensible colour scheme. :)

Have you used it in a lengthy session yet?

Yes I have. With other chairs I find myself having to move about after an hour or so. This is fine after long periods of time.

Looks lovely - not a bad price for one of those and think it's a good price for something you park your buttocks in for a fair portion of your time! Might as well get the most comfortable and supporting chair you can!

Interesting review and responses; there isn't actually a lot to say about it. This chair got a lot of press when it was released as the little brother to the Aeron. I'll try not to come across as a Herman Miller fanboy but I like the products and I'd like to work at Herman Miller down in Wiltshire. They do some good work there.

We had Aerons at Dyson when I worked there and I never had any form of back or shoulder complaint and they were dead comfy. I never even noticed it at the time. I moved to a job with normal office chairs about 2 years ago and suffered continually with neck and shoulder pain. I don't quite understand why other chair manufacurers, since they all use the same anthropometric data, get the design so wrong and design in things like bolts sticking into the foam in places where you'll feel it.

"Buy cheap, buy twice"
I use a lot of hand and power tools and it's taken me a long time to actually stick to this rule. Buy a good enough product in the first place and chances are you won't ever have to replace it, be it a pair of pliers for £18, £30 hammer, £150 drill or £600 chair.
