Hi all,

Currently got a pair of Sony SS-176EB floorstanding speakers being powered by my NAD C320BEE and Marantz CD5400. The system sounds absolutely fantastic as it is, but I'm concerned the Sony speakers are just too big for the room. They're also rear-ported, and so have issues with being up against a wall which, incidentally, is where they are going to have to be. So I was thinking of buying some decent front-ported speakers.

I looked at the B&W 685 as they're pretty gutsy and also front ported. I heard them once with a Marantz amp playing some Newton Faulkner tunes and they actually didn't sound too bad. What are peoples views on them? Would they pair well with my NAD?

I listened to all of the 68x series with some pricey Chord amps and was pretty underwhelmed, too laid back for my tastes. Paired with a NAD amp you are going to get an extremely warm sound, i'd look to pair them with a Cyrus or something quite lively as i like quite a bit of detail but it depends on what sound you like.

Sorry I don't see the problem !!!...... If you like it, just enjoy and buy more music !!!..
Don't get hung up on the right and wrongs of various designs. It doesn't mean they can't or won't work.

Speakers are personal thing, you have to go to a dealer and listen to the different brands with your amp..... There is no short cut to this, unless you want to guess and buy endless speakers trying to find the right "match"
