Glass pint glasses to be replaced with plastic

At 31, I get asked about 50%+ in Morrisons and ASDA, Morrison's have to be because their stores nearby have been fined on multiple occasions in the last 2-3 years. I look under 31 this but anyone with half a brain cell can see that I'm not under 18. These are the only two places I have been ID in the last 4-5 years or so I think.

I just wish that when I get asked, more of the staff could be polite when doing so. Some are outright and clearly deliberately patronising and make comments that you can't retort to. The once I did they refused to serve me on the grounds I must be drunk which I hadn't seen coming, being stone sober and all :D

Been in pubs in Scotland where they change from glass to plastic after a certain time, maybe that would be better.

I think it's a good idea... admittedly a blanket ban does seem a bit silly when you think that some establishments, like say a posh hotel bar are unlikely to see trouble, but if banning it for everyone helps to rid people getting hurt, or seriously injured then its worth it.

I had a job in a busy bar a good few years back now, and saw people using glass as weapons, narrowly missed getting hit by a smashed bottle once when some idiot glassed someone and the remainder came over the bar narrowly missing me. (In this case the guy attacked an innocent man, who he thought was another person who had cheated on his girlfriend).

You can say all you want about people using other weapons like mobile phones (lolz) but you take away glass, and you take away an easy, readily available weapon, which accounts for many injuries in pubs and bars, and is what people will use in a drunken rage, even if its out of character.

On a final note, it's not just attacks that glass does damage with, it's also just broken glass on the ground. People fall on it, girls especially wearing open shoes get cuts, it wrecks shoes... and in the case of somewhere like London (an Im sure many other places) the amount of broken glass outside pubs causes punctures for cyclists.

But you're referring to rowdy bars and clubs. Why can't I go down the local village pub and enjoy a hospitable pint with a load of old folk out of a glass just because some individuals can't behave when drunk?

It isn't just about the deliberate use of glass as a deadly weapon. There are also large numbers of injuries caused unintentionally. Glasses can easily break during handling and they can easily be dropped (especially in crowded areas where many people are drunk). It's a definite danger that could easily be removed.

The only counter-argument is the effect on taste. That's one reason why the current plan is to find or develop a suitable material - they're not just planning on using whatever is to hand.

If they ban glass bottles ill not be able to go out for a drink at all, I cant get my hand round any glass bigger than a shot glass because my thumbs dont work.

they make plastic bottles.

Or you could have a foot long really thin plastic pint cup to take with you :p

I dont drink glass cleaner, white-star, ect ;).
.

no i mean like proper beer (well the beer you usually get in bottle bud etc) but in a plastic bottle they use them loads in clubs.
I cant use plastic cups either, or card, I squash them, cant sense pressure when I hold anything.

get it custom made out a thick plastic tube and a cap :p

if you go to a local regularly they might let you use it :p

Its not exactly funny Tefal, I seriously cant use my thumbs to hold anything due to nerve damage and muscle wasting, I get a hard enough time as it is from doormen trying to stop me going in places saying im drunk because I walk a little unsteady, due to being paralysed bellow the knees, taking the glass bottles away with nothing to replace them for me would make going out impossible.

******* nanny state labour again, how ridiculous, ill be moving to Switzerland for less restrictive laws next! I have a very funny feeling this wont go through though.

edit/

Ah ok, just a recommendation:

"However a Home Office spokeswoman said the government would not make the new glasses mandatory.

"Where glass-related alcohol-fuelled crime has been reported we would recommend local authorities and the police to consider requiring premises to introduce plastic or polycarbonate glasses to prevent such incidents from occurring again.""

Holy hell, so many babies in this threads whinging about nothing.
Plastic, glass, who should really give a damn? Just drink your beverage and stop heart aching.

You've got better to whine about!

What the hell kinda clubs do you go to? I've never had a plastic beer bottle in a Club.

Might be a good idea for bars and clubs in busy city centers where there's lots of trouble but for quiet rural areas where people go to the pub to enjoy a pint (from a glass) and socialise it'll just end with more pubs going out of business.

Which tastes nicer? Coke drunk from a glass or plastic bottle? Same applies to alcohol.

that applies to bottled drinks, but not glasses, because it's the storage that affects the taste in that instance. The only difference I can see with hard plastic "glasses" is that they obviously insulate the drink, although surely this should mean that the drink stays cooler for longer, people tend to say the converse, but logically surely it should be that way round (talking about hard plastic "glasses" like suggested, not flimsy disposable ones)
