It's a falcon. I got it "box damaged" for £153... I didn't think before I bought it and realise it wouldn't be a Jasper (foolish of me: few elites are):( It's lot 0831 (ie made July last year) and has a 14.2 A PSU :(

On the plus side, it looks sealed (I've never unboxed a 360 before, I'll take pics if anyone wants to help me double check...) It's got all the video cables, will still have a 2 year warranty for the RROD, and I have 5 days to return under the DSR + 28 days If I decide to keep it; most faults would show themselves by this time.

Do you think I should return it under the DSR?

Doesn't the 3 year RROD warranty apply from the moment you receive the Xbox? Or is it from the manufacture date?

My launch 360 lasted 2 years before RROD. Your falcon will be fine.. it'll probably eventually rrod, but you can just get it fixed by MS.

Mines took nearly three years to rrod and ms fixed it for free.

Wouldn't worry about it, something new will be out by then

I don't see why you came and asked permission. A bit of extra cooling and 65nm CPU and GPU's don't make this much different or much more reliable than a Falcon which has a 65nm CPU but a 95nm GPU. Both are likely to break down at some point, but then you have an extended warranty so I don't see why there'd be any question of taking it back and looking for a Jasper chip. If you're uber concerned about it overheating then just buy one of those clip on fans for it.

I've had 2 Falcon 360's, neither RROD'd.

Had one for a year which was fine, my current Elite (Falcon) is coming up to a year of age and has also been just fine.

I have a falcon of about the same date and a jasper and they are both exactly the same heat out put and noise level. No different at all. Keep it....enjoy it.

Most important thing is to make sure it is clearly ventilated. I got a Falcon Xbox Arcade as soon as they came out to replace my RROD launch system, no problems whatsoever (yet).

If you are really stressed you could sit a towel on it for a bit just before your warranty runs out and RROD it yourself to get it replaced, probably be buttons to replace by then though so not worth it.

Wow!

Can't believe you're suggesting deliberately borking a machine to get it replaced for free! I'm not being naïve & know that this probably happens a lot - but should you really be even suggesting it as a possibility ?!!

how do you tell what version you have ? i had a 2006 xbox die on me last week so they replaced it with a new one , how will i tell what version i have ?

The UPC symbol on the box if they sent it in a new box, if not then look on the back of the 360 where it labels the power specification, if it says 175W then it's a Falcon chip, not one of the old crappy Zephyrs.
