My 360 has turned up :S

At the moment I'm using it on a CRT which doesn't support 60Hz. Is there any way to get round this restriction? (ie play 60hz games at 50hz)

I'll be using this with my monitor when I buy a VGA cable, but not for a few weeks :)

No, if a game needs 60hz to be played there isn't a way of forcing it to 50hz.

The UPC symbol on the box if they sent it in a new box, if not then look on the back of the 360 where it labels the power specification, if it says 175W then it's a Falcon chip, not one of the old crappy Zephyrs.

Not strictly correct.

Check the back of the console, on the sticker for the amps...

16,5A Zephyr
14,2A Falcon
12,1A Jasper

Ignore the power brick. Some early jaspers come with the older power brick (175w)

Is that not what I said? or do you just need to read more carefully before exciting yourself?

It's not what you said.

I might be going mad, but the wattage isn't mentioned on the actual console at all is it? That's only on the power brick which as markyb pointed out, isn't the easiest way to tell.

You want to check the amps on the console as markyb said.

Well that is still a bit pedantic. Checking the sticker at the back will still confirm which model you have.

I think the point they're trying to make is you said check the back of the console for 175W, which they won't find as the wattage is only printed on the PSU. Some earlier jaspers came with older PSUs which will have had the higher wattage on it, making people think that it is an older model when it may not be if they used your technique.

The only sure-fire way to be certain you have a falcon is to check the back of the console for the Amplitude, as stated above, as this is the only power consumption figure that is printed on the console itself.

Basically MS had to confuse things by bundling excess PSUs for older chipsets in with Jasper consoles. Because of this the only way to tell for sure is to check the back of the console for the amplitude as the wattage is not printed on the console itself.

Okay I see. So it's the amplitude that is printed on the sticker, not the wattage. My bad on that one then, and I was obviously wrong, but I'd still say that it's slightly nit-picky and that some people are quite heavy handed with their responses.

Whereas yours explained properly, rather than just dismissing somebody else's attempts at helping.

Not really, you gave incorrect and misleading information, which caused at least one person in this thread to come to a possibly incorrect diagnosis of which console they have:

I cant see 175watt anywhere so it must be one of the old crappy ones :(

Whereas yours explained properly, rather than just dismissing somebody else's attempts at helping.

Then you accused the person that corrected you of not reading what you'd put (in quite a rude manner imo). It's not nit-picking, the information you provided was just wrong! ;)

At what point was my orignal post dismissive and heavy handed?

As both orderoftheflame and Streeteh have kindly pointed out, I was merely correcting your post to ensure the OP knows what console he has.

I did not resort to personal attacks on yourself, nor the use of : rolleyes. In fact the only post which comes across as heavy handed/rude, is yours.

Well as two people here are obviously holding each others E-peens I won't bother posting anymore in this particular thread. I do admit that I was incorrect when I stated that the wattage was written on the back of the 360, and I do apologise for the confusion I gave to the person asking the question. Also, if you read any of my other posts in other threads then you will see that I'm not rude in the slightest and I always say please and thank you for any help that I am given by any other members of these forums. Just to finish, I'd like to say that I haven't made an attack about your person, just of the way that you worded your post which I personally thought was a little unfriendly, hence my sharp reply. I don't go out of my way to be nasty or insulting to people, ever, and no doubt if you said something that I agreed with in a different thread then this incident wouldn't prevent me from agreeing with you.

Not needed.

I didn't mean the post to come accross as un-friendly at all. Just a small correction, its a common mistake for people to go by the power brick. I made the same mistake after I purchased my Xbox.

I've been here for many years now and like all forums, its common for someone to take a post the wrong way, as its very 2-dimensional.

:)

thanks for the info markyb ;)

it seems ive been sent another 16,5A Zephyr , oh well , let just hope this one lasts longer than my last one :)
