New Watch - Share with ocuk

Bought myself a citizen calibre 2100 for christmas last year, similar to the op's but it has an all black face and is stainless steel, as to what rotty said i wear it everyday and not one scratch on it yet (though im sure its time will come lol). Has a really nice weight to it and works just as well for formal outings or everyday use. In other words i love it, highly recomend it to anyone else. However one question (rotty or skidder you might be able to help) i bought mine for £300 but they all seem to be selling for £350 now anyone know why surely it should have dropped in price? Cheers

do you mean increased in price ?

most watches have increased in price recently due to the poor strength of the pound against other currencies

yep increased in price, and cheers could well be the reason why, seems i bought it at the best time i could. thanks rotty was just curious, i thought it would have dropped due to the recession and what for. as you can clearly tell im not an economist hehe

As Rotty stated, the week pound made them go up but the ecomomic situation has lead to some massive price cuts and bargains to be had.

I can find several places which would sell your watch for £270 or less brand new.

Even ex-display they are only £80 to £100 on the fleabay.

And there are lots of high street retailers doing 50% or more off watches atm so its a great time to buy a "quality" watch (quality in quotes so it doesn't upset Rotty ;))

Used prices on the watch forums are also pretty low IMO. There are some bargains to be had at every end of the market.

Anyone have an opinion on the Tissot Veloci-T Chronograph Watch?

I've been thinking about maybe buying one.

There is also the same watch but in red/black.

looks smart but I find rubber straps horribly sweaty

change if for a black gator strap with double orange stitching :)

That is a nice watch bud and a bargain!

And too all the watch bashers bringing money into it (when all the watch aficionados haven't even touched on that) suggest you shush before you sound even more of a tool - who cares if someone buys a watch that costs £1000 when you can pick one up for £50, it's just the same as someone buying a Jaguar when a Fiesta still would have got you from A to B.

Some people have different tastes, and why begrudge them spending the money they work hard for on the finer things in life. :)

I am quite fascinated by the idea of having one with a rubber strap since all my previous watches have been various other types.

I should probably try one on at least before buying one if they are pretty bad for making your wrist sweat.

The watch costs between £250 - £300 and looks pretty good however I know absolutly nothing about them, apart from what I read on the various websites that sell them.

edit: Had a quick google of a similar strap you suggested and I believe it may actually look very nice indeed. Would be nice to have 2 straps too.

Any links? My parents said I could select a watch for approx £150ish for my birthday... This was a few months back and I couldn't find anything I wanted so I'm still casually looking. I'm aware this price is still a little low but I'm willing to add a bit and am obviously aware I'd still be knowhere near the big names... None the less I'd be keen to see what's available now :). Cheers.

I still really like my Citizen watch I got for my 16th three years ago now. It's stood the test of time until now, though it has scratched up just a bit over the years.

Rotty - (sorry for the OT) do you happen to know anywhere that I can purchase a black leather / croc strap with white stitching and official deployment for a 42.5mm PO?

Quick question, does anyone have any idea where the best place to look for Tissot watches are?

I'm currently after the Tissot V8 in Black and Red as I think I'm in love with it, but can't seem to find anyone who stocks it.

Is it a matter of going to a jewler or something and asking if they can get hold of it for me?

This is it by the way.

Skidder has supplied some great online links. As for bargains just find a watch you like and google it. There are some good discounts online.

For the high street, just hit a big town/city and go walkabout. When I was wondering around last week, lots of jewellers were discounting watches 50% or more off. I even saw some Tag and Breitlings heavily discounted (although out of your price range)

Remember with my watch, it had a list price of £450 and the cheapest I could find was over £300 online but managed to blag a bargain at £167 so don't assume in the current climate that just because the watch you like is £300+ that you won't be able to find it within your budget of £150. ;)

This place will make any strap you want

http://www.abp-paris.com/watchbands_creations_watchstraps.php?rid=7&cid=1

check the likes of Timezone forums for a deployment clasp, other than that you may have to go to Omega dealer for that

Ohh, great link Rotty hadn't seen that site before. Has given me some great strap ideas for some upcoming projects. The only custom straps I have are toshis but as they are so chunky they only suit certain watches. He does a great job in his niche though.

Can certainly see these people making my next memovox strap, may be ostritch or stingray. In Paris in sep so will check them out.

Fancy one of their denim straps for one of the projects I have in mind too.
