...and the BBC news is going into overdrive covering it - why, is this America? Would US news do this if a British MP died?

More to the point, what is the deal with honouring this man, recently with an honorary knighthood and now with this fawning press coverage in the UK? This is a man who gave support to the IRA, he was no lover of Britain or our interests.

It's just the aura surrounding the Kennedy family.

It is a joke that the BBC go insane over these things. I didn't know who this man was at first, and I bet 99% of the people you meet on the street dont know either.

Totally pathetic by the BBC and I've got no sympathy for that man.

He doesn't need your sympathy, he's dead. And just because you don't have much knowledge of global politics doesn't mean other people aren't interested. I'd rather they cover something like this than tell me something utterly mundane.

Reporting the fact that it happened is one thing; spending half an hour on it as if it's someone well loved and/or important in THIS country is another matter.

I find the Americanisation of the British media to be insidious and it should be resisted - I bet no other European country gives his death similar coverage.

Whilst there was some elements of Ted Kenndy's career that were maybe not the best decisions that he made, I'd say - overall, he did a lot for America compared to many other politicians.

I think it is worth remembering the bigger picture, rather than the smaller details that appear to be clouding his good work (esp in healthcare, education and so on).

And we, sir, are not American. So it can kindly **** off out tv. A 30s clip is more than enough.

I really don't get this media obsession with America that really ramped up when GWB became president. Just recently some nut jobs over there criticised the NHS with some wildly inaccurate arguments, we rightly corrected them. Now the press here seems obsessed discussing how America should reform its healthcare system. IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH US FFS

I don't see why it's such an issue that the BBC is covering it.
He was one of the longest serving politicians in the history of the country, that alone is worth merit.
He's partially responsible for where the country is today, and whether or not you approve of America's current state is irrelevant, he meant a lot to a lot of people.

They either cover him or they give us recycled news about how terrible it is that everyone can't go to university, or how terrible all politicians are for claiming things they've been entitled to for years

Surely that's the last of them? We can only hope! Did these people never stop breeding!?

Never understood all the fuss about the Kennedys, tbh. They're like the USA's answer to Diana.
