My businss idea...

<dragon>I don't like Trance. I don't know anyone who does. I know nothing about setting up these sort of nights nor their profitability. You seem to constantly forget to do important tasks and you've not offered me any biscuits. For those reasons, and those reasons alone, I'm out.</dragon>

i dont see how your so business, and entrepeneur?

your businesses went down the pan by forgetting to renew domain names? what!

also skippi, at some point i need some more work off you if thats groovy! drop us an email :)

there's next to bugger all money in it if that's what you're after.

You need to work out security and what the audio setup is in there (ie. will they let you put more speakers in you want too) with the venue. what cut the venue takes depends entirely on the venue. If it's a private venue then you need to know if they have a license to sell alcohol and for how many people it's permitted to hold under the fire regulations etc...? If it's not licensed you can get around that by swapping money for tickets which you can then exchange for beer.

All in all, do it for the love of it, because it's not worth the effort in the majority

Hmm funnily enough it opens you up to many options, most people on the course at the moment are going into Finance / Consultancy / Management / Strategy (My desired area possibly in finance).

Must be an ok degree cause many people on the course are seated in Deutsche Bank / Apple / Ernst & Young / Unilever / P&G / Accenture / McKinsey / BOA / Shell / BP / Merrill Lynch for this years summer internship...

Yes you're right it seems broad, some have complained.. but in year 3 you can specialise in two modules. We were the first batch on this course so we were the guinea pigs I suppose.

Oh and btw, your future job is not limited by what you take at University, you can go into a investment bank with a archaeology degree and get a job. It's about the person and what they can bring to the company.

What course do you do out of interest?

Just about all courses list a load of companies that students have gone into. Doesn't mean your well suited for them or that other people won't get in over you with better degrees.

I do agree with you that you arnt limited to your degree though. Most things you do in your degree you will never use but you have proved you can do certain things which can be adapted to fit a lot of jobs. But then when you go up against someone with a maths degree they have proved a whole lot more and are likely to beat you, of course in areas more applicable. At the end of the day, experience is what is most important.

The course was meerly replaced for a new updated version and name, along with a few module changes along the way. On top of this it was sponsored by some big companies:

Accenture, BA, BBC, BT, CA, Capgemini, Cisco, Deloitte, Ford, Fujitsu, HP/EDS, IBM, ITV, Logica, Micro Focus, Morgan Stanley , Network Rail, Procter & Gamble, Sainsbury's, SAS and Unilever.

So on top of your couse you get business days at the companies HQ etc to help you train for interviews or workshops for CV's :)

Not only does this let you gain some good skills, but also allows you to network with personnel you'd never normally shake hands with as a student, which is vital in business.

Sounds like nice connections but thats what happens when you go to a uni like UCL.

That doesn't make the course worth doing though compared to others you could do there and litraly make a killing with the degree you will come out with.

Can I just tell you where i'm at - having seen dozens of these nights happen over the past 10 years, not one of them ever worked. There's no money in it, and for that reason i'm out.

Seriously, if you want to make money from small club nights, forget trance/chillout music.

probably because you average 12yr doesnt know what web hosting is let alone how to start it.

you make it out its normal, for the computer literate and fortunate then yes maybe. after a couple of years on the Net, kids will get bored and start to become nerdy on making websites and capitalising etc.

but spewing out stuff like that on a forum. surely you know it will be recieved with sarcasm

I'm not trying to make it seem like it's normal. I realise that the average 12 year old will only have a very basic knowledge of a PC, never mind web hosting etc.

Some people seem to think, on this forum (I'm sure it happens on other forums as well), that just because they, and the general public weren't running a business at 12 then nobody else can and they should abuse them/laugh at them when they ask for some help/advice.

I believe this guy, he seems arrogant with no interpersonal skills, exactly like most real entrepreneurs.

I'm joking of course :p

From what I've read the op is ambitious, which is great. I don't see arrogance despite the usual moronic attacks for no good reason.

LOL

Ambitious. Ambitious how? Because he's starting project after project and not putting the time into them to make a success? Trance/Chillout nights are hardly an innovation. What's to stop the venue organising it themselves and cutting the cost dramatically?

Do I need to post a definition of ambition? He's putting time and effort into trying to start a club night. If you disagree with his strategy then why not discuss it and offer advice instead of being the usual kid troll.

What do you do for a living that you're so well placed to criticise others for trying to make something of themselves? You've not exactly demonstrated a lot intelligence on this forum.

I have offered my opinion in that there is no real business in the idea. It's common sense.

Why should I need to prove my intelligence? I couldn't give two ****s about anyone on here. I don't know anyone here. I will, however give my opinion, which is what this forum is for.
