Would be better off with a decent pair of Sennheiser's (HD555/595) or Goldring DR150's however the issue is these won't allow you to get any form of surround sound from the 360 unless you already have an amp. Otherwise you have to stick to stereo.

BTW if those A40's are 5.1 then I would stay well clear...the only form of surround sound that actually works in headphones is when Dolby Headphone is being utilized on a pair of decent stereo headphones.

I've used 2 'surround sound' headsets before, the sound quality was pap and the surround sound effect was pretty poor.

With my 595's in Dolby Headphone mode I can very clearly tell what is going on behind, in front and to the side of me. It's pretty sweet technology.

They use Dolby Headphone. :) The amp takes the 5.1 output from the Xbox and does the magic gubbins to convert it. (Infact I've noticed Dolby use the A40 set as an example on their own Dolby Headphone website).

Guess you haven't had the HPX + Astro a40 mixamp then? lol.
HPX is a PC headset hence why it needs the A40 mixamp.

I've had basically every gaming headset out there and this is the best :)

Seems quite odd plugging a 5.1 set into something that's outputting Dolby Headphone?

I wouldn't touch them for the reason above. I've had surround sets that cram lots of small speakers in for a "surround" effect, it just doesn't work.

I have a set of Sennheiser earphones at the moment, and they are still amazing despite their age (approx. 10 years old), but it's just time to replace them, those HD595 seem epic!

If I had £200 to spend on headphones I would get those A40's. Maybe an xmas present from mother. :D

Any UK suppliers of those A40's?

Yep the 595's are great but as said the only issue as that they do not have their own amp so you'd have to stick with stereo for consoles!

I got mine from the jersey store for £85, you might have to break them in for them to sound better. (just play music and they will eventually improve in sound, takes a good few hours)

Mine sounded a lot better after I had used them for a few hours.

Oh good they might be quite decent then. :p

It's not for the 5.1 :)
It's for the sound quality that the headset produces and the super clear mic and feedback which I prefered over my astro's. Also comfier and cheaper :)

I slipped this into an older post I made, but I don't know if it's been seen.

Dolby have them as an example of Dolby Headphone on their site. :)

Unfortunately not. But their service for overseas customers has been fantastic for me. :)

Yes there are UK suppliers :)
But it's sort of a competitor because they sell like 2 mice's lol!

Type the word lime into google along with headsets :P
