I've had MANY people come up to me and say nice car. Ok not MANY but a few people :p

The big wheels and the flared wheel arches really set it apart from a standard Mondeo.

And it's much lower than standard aswell.

I get comments about my car all the time too, non car people think its much more expensive than it is - its not even an ST either, its a Zetec-S so a looky-likey :)

i'm still hankering over an ST220, i still really like them. I don't think i'd change my current car for one though, but i still think they look stunning in performance blue and wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

The Supercharged Jag linked earlier will certainly give you some serious speed, very little gives you quite the same feeling of endless power for such a low price that an XJR can give you ...but you won't find a really good one for £4k not a V8 anyway, it'll be an older turbo-charged l6, which is an entirely different beast and is nowhere close to the same car as the supercharged V8 XJR's that came later.

Sure you can find the V8s for less than £5k, but they won't be the finest examples and they will probably cost you a ruddy fortune to keep going for very long. If you are going to buy an XJR, make sure it's a really good one, with a spotless service history and maintenance record, or it has an uncomfortably high probability of costing you an arm, leg and half a gallon of blood.

Just some friendly words of warning really :) ...fantastic cars though, when you get a good one.

I don't believe it does at all, its not common enough (well, i certainly don't see a great deal of them around) to fall into the "Mondeo Man/Rep Mobile" category.

Ok, so they're harder to spot if they are not in Performance Blue, but they are stunning for what they are...

LOL

Its just a mondeo, no need to jizz yourself.

As an owner of an ST220 I agree with the OP that it just isn't a car that gives you an acceleration kick.

The only time it starts to feel really quick is over 4k rpm in 3rd, then you do feel it :p but in general it has a very smooth feel.

I've also driven the Saab Aero and been in a Seat Leon Cupra R and say both of those cars do feel a little faster but nothing amazing. I didn't drive the Leon so I won't say anymore on that but the Aero I found to be a nice drive and the turbo did give you a smile when pushing it but overall the ST220 is more of a drivers car. The Saab just lacked the feel in the controls (a very light clutch was the killer) and was a bit a too small inside.

That said if I had found an Aero 9-3 for £4k then I would have been very tempted but I doubt you'll find a decent specced model in that price range.

Why not to buy a car with no V5 logbook....

...because it's not legally saleable to you.

If the seller doesn't have one, they have no proof that they own the vehicle.

Have you ever owned a nice, straight, good condition, non dodgy, non 'iffy' car? Ever?

yes i have a proper receipt its got the green slip so i can go and tax it 2moro aswell

So he has the green slip, which doesn't have the registered keepers details on it, but he's managed to lose the rest of it, which... does? How has he managed to lose one bit and not the other? They are attached until such time as you sell the car!
