I decided to have a password on my windows 7 machine (RC Build 7100), just for the fun of it.

File sharing etc required a password to access my machine, no problem, i entered it and away I went.

But the minute I removed my password from my windows 7 unit, everything to try and share from it just stopped working.
I had to re enter my password into windows 7 UAC to get everything else accessing my shared folders from it ??

This problem came from xp/vista and now again in windows 7 ???????????

Why on earth have they not correted this ??
For me to remove this problem, I have to remove all user accounts and start a fresh with NO password what so ever and its fine again ?

What on earth is supposed to happen when there are multiple accounts on this machine ?? Which btw I havnt tried yet ?

When you go to share a folder or files or whatever, just add the user "Everyone" and give them full permission, this will give you access to the majority of folders except

- Your Documents
- C:\Program Files
- C:\Windows

Other than that you can link directly to My Pictures and such you just need to specifically allow them. Also other hard drives are access no problem.

Did you report it? :p
If not then don't just assume someone else noticed this behavior. It's obviously not something that their own QA department picked up if it's been in XP/Vista and now 7.
Either that or the defect is seen as trivial and not worth fixing.

No I Havnt reported it, Yes I would have assumed that someone else would have done so, the amount of users trying this system out.

Although, school boy error, I have missed something and now am feeling like a "D!*k" :(

In the advanced sharing options, even though i had removed my password. Password protected file sharing was still enabled ? despite there being no password. turned this off and happy days.

Sorry LOL!

Was up late trying to figure this out as it was bugging me, clear head this morning and ooo what do you know

Btw yes my network is secure so Im happy to share around my home network.

That happens to me aswell, and I think its the same in vista. Basicallly now I use a password, if I turn it off and I access my main pc from my 2nd pc, it asks for a password.
