What's the rest of the set up you have ? ....... why does it bore you ?
They should be nice well performing amps, are they at fault of something else in the audio chain ?
Remember source first ;)

A Tripath based amp will have these characteristics... Especially a TA2020 based one. :)

It would also be gutless into inefficient speakers. Been there, tried that.

As already stated, we need some more details from the OP about what he's not happy with and what the partnering equipment is.

Yep agreed, we need to know what speakers he has.

If he does have inefficient speakers the Tripath TA3020 is good for around 300W rms per channel so is a little less gutless than the TA2020... ;) It's a shame they're not being produced anymore however...

And what speakers/cables are they driving?

Forget the damn cables :p

Just have a browse around the forums and some dealerships. It's hard to recommend a bit of kit with specific characteristics unless you demo it with your own kit, and most importantly in your own room.

Go on, tell us more about what you're not happy with.
I have to say, that just from a first glance, if I was going to point my finger at a weak point in your system, it would be your source, not the amp.
I keep banging on about it, but I'll do it again, garbage in, garbage out.

Agreed, Source is king, The amp at best can perfectly reproduce what its sent...

I know...Just one of my friends a while back bought some expensive kit... Didnt replace the speaker cable 'as they were buried in the wall and its a lot of hassle'... Bell wire so totally inadequate! Got to know the full system to ensure there isnt a weak link.

DACmagic (flac) / Arcam 9 Cdp.

It's a nice system dont get me wrong, I'm just wondering what else I could get amp wise for around the same and then I'll get a matching CDp.

Quad, Musical FIdelity, Rega?

Do you find the Naim sound boring? Its probably some of the least boring sounding hifi I can think of, many people think that it sounds a bit to much and don't like it because of that but I have never heard it described as boring.

Try a different CD player, even a CD5i will sound much better than an old alpha 9. Borrow one from you local dealer, also see if they will lend you some NACA5 speaker cable as it does sound great with naim kit.

Bryston amps are the natural partner for pmc speakers. If you want to lower your box count they also do amp packs that fit on the back of the speakers but i have never heard those.I have the same tb2+ speakers and use either a 20 watt class A valve amp or cyrus amps to drive them. The speakers are revealing to the signal fed them and im very surprised you find the sound boring with naim amplification. Also what you use between the stands and the speakers will alter the sound so may be worth experimenting there. In the past ive used bluetac - rubber tap washers - spikes.Bluetac will decouple the speakers giving a warmer more laid back sound and spikes a cleaner tighter more forward sound and the tap washers somewhere in between.Always worth trying these things first before you spend on new amps.I use atacama se 24 stands filled with sand and spiked top and bottom and chord oddy biwire. http://dik.dolan.googlepages.com/blackknobs.jpg

Hmmmm could just be a serial box swapper ;) ......

Front end is definitely weak..... Arcam make some nice kit/CDP's... but it's out of it's depth here. I would image it is to full, warm and laid back even with Naim amps !!!

That said I can understand a comment about Naim amps being boring, to be blunt all but the best Naim kit is boring to me...... it's a one trick pony.... all grip and detail, breaks up the music in bits, and doesn't allow it to flow and sound like one performance anymore. Adding a Naim CDP would make it worse....

Fix the front end first, if not enjoy the endless box swapping looking for the audio holy grail ! ;-)

.....but it just doesnt sound like a hifi.

Sorry I disagree..... IT DOES SOUND like Hi-Fi.... IT DOES NOT sound like music...... Which I would say is where your problem is.

Many systems are bought and held up as being great, as on first hearing they are "impressive HiFi"..... Live with it and your get bored of the and excitement wears off..... A good system, doesn't always impress in the 1st few seconds, but once you have lived with it... you appreciate it and don't change it !

I would suggest going to a few dealers, and try listening to a few completely different set ups.....

Suppose I'm just not enjoying it Mr_Sukebe, I dont feel apart of whats being played. I want to feel as if im there, involved and gripping me by the teeth and get my head bouncing.

All i feel like now, is that theres two speakers at the end of my room, almost like the performance is flat against the wall and it's not really doing much with it. It does sound nice and there is certainly grip over the music, but it just doesnt sound like a hifi.

I'm maybe looking for more of an old school hifi sound, something with depth, clarity.

That certainly gives us more to go on.
My experience with Naim is that it can seem a little two dimensional when compared to some other kit on the market. I'm surprised that you don't find it fun though, as I've not come across much that is more toe tapping boppy.

For all that, I'm also surprised that you didn't spot both of the above when you dem'd it and bought it. What source was in use at that point?

Have to say that I agree with 9s comments though.
Sounds like you really need to stand back a little and start from first principles, i.e. what are you looking for. The best way to do that is go to a few good local dealers and listen to a variety of systems to get a feel for what they're good and bad at. They don't even need to be systems that are necessarily in your price bracket, it's more a question of finding out which "house sound" and style of presentation you prefer. Once you've done that, then look at making changes.
