I can't help be feel we're being drip fed information by the op on purpose to get responses out of you guys, i find the way the event have unfolded very odd to say the least and no sane person would have purchases that car under those circumstances, something doesn't add up imho.

lol your saying im insane because i bought the car from a genuine famliy who couldnt find the log book, and now they have phoned me this morning to say they have found it and are posting it to me.

i really dont give a stuff about the mot, if it fails so what? i can source parts cheaply and do the work myself. i used my brain to save money instead of spending £4000 on one.

No MOT or very limited MOT
No Tax?
No logbook (at the point of sale and you accepted this)
No legal way to drive the car for a proper test
Paying way under book price
The guy wanting £500 to MOT it (why does he want £500?)
No HPI check
No Proper V5 Document.

So basically everything you should do when buying a car to check its ok you haven't done, all the red flashing lights that you should avoid you've gone for, its like a quizshow gameboard with all those flashing lights.

because he wanted £2900 for him to mot it

i payed £2400 for me to mot it myself, i can do all the work myself if it fails and im sure mot the parts are from golfs and theres plenty of golfs in scrap yards so i dont really care

well that explains that then

its failed its MOT and needed £500s worth of work doing to MOT it

Hopefully he's just misplaced the logbook as he says and its all entirely innocent.

And if you can do his £500 worth of work using favours from mates etc.. for £200, then you've saved yourself some more.

thats my problem not yours. i know what im doing i went with a car dealer with 10 years experiance in performance cars such as m3's and evos ect..

he told me he hasnt taken it for an mot it just run out and he parked on his drive becos he was skint, i have checked on the vosa website

What before it goes bang in a big way or before he get "bored"?

I feel he's about the enter the age of, omg how many bits fail and oh no how much are these parts.

i have looked on ecp website and octavia parts are cheaper then mondeo parts

How does fixing 3 Mondeos school you in how much 1.8T engines cost to fix?

I really hope for your sake it doesn't need to much doing, because if this is the case its a cracking buy, but costs with these engines soon adds up, thats if you want to keep it running correctly.

Has it ever crossed your mind to buy a good car and keep it rather than continually chop and change because you get 'well bored innit'?

Service Items every 10k - (You don't have to change all these but i do cause its cheap)
Oil £45
Oil Filter £5
*Spark Plugs £10
Air Filter £8ish
Pollen Filter £10

*only if you move away from OEM ones otherwise £40 per set per 30k

4x coil packs from the dealer (so you get good ones no cheap - ebay knockoffs) - £115

New turbo due to mine burning oil, little point getting a secondhand one, either new or recon is the only way forward.

£500 for the turbo
£100 for all the fittings
Coolant + oil £60
Oil Filter £5

So a turbo change is £665 at the very least

The oil pickup will sludge up and it will be due a change now £275 for this

Dual mass flywheel plus cluth £900 fitted

Cam chain tensioner will be on its way out, you can tell cause the engine is noisy, £275 for the part only, its a pain to fit but a good job to do yourself.

Front control arms on mine have just gone the proper full kit is £345 i've just finished fitting this myself.

Best bit it your car is now due a cambelt and waterpump change, thats another £400 down the drain mine is due at 120k.

I'd say thats quite a high set of bills for 2 years on simple VW, much higher than a mondeo and all that work bar the clutch and flywheel i've done myself, double the cost otherwise.

So thats about 3k worth of fixes and service parts over 2 years.
