Is 32" 1080P really worth it?

I'm in the market for a new TV and have been trying to decide whether or not to spend a bit more and go for 1080P. I've heard that 1080P is a bit useless on screen sizes 32" and smaller if you're sat more than 3ft away (which I will be)? I just can't decide whether to spend a bit more for 1080P or save some dosh and just stick with 720P.

I'll be sat around 1.5-3m away from the screen and it will be used for a bit of everything really.. gaming, SD TV and HD movies via HTPC. I guess it's probably best to go to a shop and actually take a look myself?

Cheers!

I'd recommend 720p for a 32". Like insane200 said - over 40" and you'll start to see the advantages of 1080p...

Ok thanks guys, I'll either save money and buy a cheaper set or spend the same amount for a better quality 720P TV instead.

Cheers.

It depends on the price gap, I recently bought a 1080p 32" samsung and I absolutely love it, no regret in my mind at all, was going to go with LE32B450(720p) had some brilliant reviews, but I went with LE32B550(1080p) had some even better reviews about £90 difference between them, its future proof for any ps3/360 and well I love it and dont regret it.

1080p is nigh on impossible to see over 720p even on a large set from normal viewing distances. Far too many people seem to think it is the holy grail of sets these days, fed by marketing and monkeys working in high st electrical stores.

Don't bother unless you will be using it as a pc montior or will be sitting less than a couple of metres from it.

Thats where I come in, I use it as a second display and sit about a metre an half away so I notice the difference;)

I have a 32" panasonic (1080p) and a samsung bluray player and its deffo not worth botthering with unless you're gonna get a 37"-40" screen ( and the 37" is absolute minimum screen size I reckon), you just can't see the increase in IQ at those distances from the screen. 42" would be my choice.

Indeed, and as you will know if it wasn't 1080p then ithe pixel structure would be easy to see, and that's never good.

Hmm yeah, kind of sums it up. I will be using it with a PC, however, but exclusively as a HTPC running Windows Media Centre, so I won't be sat at a 'computer' distance, just normal viewing distance.

I'm going to go to a certain high street retailer this weekend and check out what TVs they have. Can anyone give me any recommendations for a decent all-round 32"-37" TV that can be had for less than £450? I'm thinking either LG or Samsung as you seem to get more bang for your buck at this price point. I really fancied the Panasonic Plasma that's available cheap atm, but having no PC input (I could always buy a HDCP gfx card and DVI>HDMI I guess) and no anti-glare has kind of put me off. Plus as it'll be used as a HTPC a plasma probably isn't the best option if it's left on a menu/desktop for a long time.

I ended up getting the LG 32LH3000 which is a 1080P 32" screen, but I mainly got it because it's an awesome set for the price, and the 1080P is a nice little bonus. I hooked up my 360 and sat like 2ft away and it looked pretty awesome! Just need to get my HTPC correctly outputting at 1080P now.. having problems with my X800GTO. Not sure if it's a driver problem (can't seem to get the proper ATI drivers installed and I think it's using the Microsoft implementation), or that it doesn't like 1080P over VGA. Might have to end up buying a HDCP graphics card and DVI->HDMI to get the full 1080P. Any thoughts?

how much did you pay for that tv?

£399.00. I thought I could get it a tad cheaper, but apparently the 'new' model has just come out (the 32LH3010) so it was £399.00. They're exactly the same sepcs though.
