I would like to keep my ntlworld email as i have done for a few years but use skys outgoing SMTP to send mail. On orange is was smtp.orangeworld.co.uk

What is skys?

Thanks

Thanks, but now i get this message (any ideas?) -

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was '[email protected]'. Subject 'Re: Zune 80 For Sale', Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'smtp.tools.sky.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. 28sm301981eye.14', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

You need to enable SSL for the outgoing server and provide the email address and password for your Sky email account. Not all smpt servers require authentication but sky does.

I have enabled SSL for outgoing but want to keep the pop.ntlworld.com for incoming mail. I tried entering my sky username and password then setting back to my ntlworld email username and password and now its not taking that either. :(

I have just done exactly what you want to do using the Mac Mail client, I sent an email to my Gmail account using a mail account on my host as the incoming server and the Sky smpt server as the outgoing server. Not sure where you are going wrong. What mail client are you using. Also make sure you only use the Sky address and password to authenticate the outgoing smpt server do not change the details on the incoming server (if you did of course).

Using Outlook Express. Not sure why the smtp.tools.sky.com does not work in the outgoing. Before i had smtp.orangeworld.co.uk for outgoing and the NTL info for incoming and it worked fine. I could sent messages using orange and still get my mail through the ntlworld address.

I would have thought that changing the smtp to sky would have worked then set SSL to on, on the outgoing but that doesnt work. I then tried changing the username and password from the NTLworld one to my Sky username and password and that didnt send either. Then set the username and password back to NTL world ones and they come up with a wrong username/password now

How do i set my account details back to how they were before when the worked on incoming ntl mail at least? I think the info is stored in the registry somewhere and i know email info for outlook express is in application data because i already tried moving that. I dont want to have to do a system restore really

One thing that just occured to me is have you enabled pop/imap using the Sky web client? Perhaps this is preventing it from authenticating. The Sky system iirc is based on Gmail. Will look into this further when I am not posting by phone.

pop is enabled and imap is disabled in my sky settings. I have now enabled imap

I'll try this tonight-

edit - just had a think, ill just get back my old account settings but booting from my clone drive from a few weeks ago, save the account settings to usb and then reboot from my current drive and add the settings

Using POP3 / IMAP will allow to view your email's on your computer and read them using an email program like Microsoft Outlook Express.

Configure your email program:

1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Click the Tools menu, and select Email Accounts....
3. Click Add and then click Mail...
4. Enter your name in the Display name: field and click Next.
5. Enter your full Sky Email address ([email protected]) in the Email address: field and click Next.
6. Enter the following information in the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: field:

POP3 - pop.tools.sky.com
IMAP - imap.tools.sky.com

7. Enter 'smtp.tools.sky.com' in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: field.
8. Click Next.
9. Enter your Sky Email username (including '@sky.com') in the Account name: field.
10. Enter your Sky Email password in the Password: field and click Next.
11. Click Finish.
12. Highlight pop.tools.sky.com or imap.tools.sky.com under Account and click Properties.
13. Click the Advanced tab.
14. Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP), tick the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
15. Enter '465' in the Outgoing mail (SMTP): field.
16. Under Incoming mail (POP3 / IMAP), tick the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

This port should change to either 995 for POP3 or 993 for IMAP.

17. Click the Servers tab and tick the box next to My server requires authentication.
18. Click OK.

That crap that i cant use the Sky server to send mail from another address

So is it possible to receive email to my NTLworld email address and then send from the Sky one? - Ill just make 2 accounts. Though itll be strange if someone emails my ntl address then i reply with my sky one, then they reply and it goes to the sky one...

Sounds like now might be a good time to think about moving away from ISP email, so you're not reliant on a previous ISP. Either to a generic provider like Gmail or register your own domain, paying for email hosting or having something like Google Apps handle it.

You would be best just using the ntl one, why bother with the sky one if your not using that adress but the ntl one.

Thats what i want to do but use Sky server to send mail from my NTL address. Looks like i cant with skys new gmail style email

Daegan - I have a hotmail account, i only really use my ntl email for here. Bout time i sacked the ntl address off really.

Thinking about it ill just setup Sky email and add some different sky addresses

Thanks all.

The sky email is terribly unreliable, trust me on that ;)

best sign up with googlemail and use that as a perma address. its what I do.

I don't know how long you've been using Sky Email but I spent the last 6 months in the dev team that is responsible for it and I can assure you it isn't unreliable. They have very tight perfomance and availability kpis and there are always at least two people on 24hr on call support. I'm not saying you are lying, as there's every chance you've had bad experiences with it, but I'd use it (if I didn't already have a gmail which is essentially the same thing)

OK, my sky email is now working. Is it possibe to setup another email address with sky so my housemates and send and receive mail. After i login, i go to mail settings then accounts but there are only option to add email addresses or email accounts i already wown. Is it possible to create a new mail address

e.g.

[email protected]
