A US woman found after being abducted as a girl in 1991 gave birth to two children fathered by her alleged kidnapper - the first when she was 14.

Jaycee Dugard and her daughters, 11 and 15, were kept in a "hidden backyard within a backyard", police say.

Alleged kidnapper Phillip Garrido, 58, and his wife Nancy Garrido, 54, are being held in custody in California.

What really beggars belief in this case is that the man in question has been convicted of rape, imprisoned and paroled during the time that the girl was being kept in the backyard... and nobody noticed her there.

What is wrong with some people?

I wonder how much this actually happens, forced abduction cases do not seem common. Is that because they are rare or it is rare that the captives are found? It makes me wonder about the child abduction cases that are reported on a lot of kids are never found and people just assume they were murdered.

Not exactly Fritzl action, since she wasn't his daughter.

It does make you realise that Madeleine McCann could still be alive.

ffs stuff like this makes me wish Cali implemented the death penalty more

People who are mentally unstable enough to commit such crimes are unlikely to even contemplate any consequences.

An eye for an eye makes everyone blind.

Do you have a source for that bit? BBC makes no mention, and the ABC story linked from there says his conviction was in 1971.

the most shocking story i have heard to date, It makes you wonder what your neighbors are up to!!!

I'm checking mine out tonight!!!

exactly what i was thinking ...

I actually feel sick when I think about that possibility, if she is alive what she has gone through since. In a horrible way, I think if she was kidnapped by paedophiles then they would have had to kill her because of all the publicity. I just hope shes not suffering. :(

They could've just as easily locked her up indefinitely. If anything this case shows that it is possible ....

Listen to the audio clip. Why on earth are they giving him the time of day to tell his story?!!:mad: "If you take this a step at a time, you're going to fall over backward and in the end you're going to find the most powerful, heart-warming story"

Why is that so unthinkable?

The area occupied by Ms Dugard and her children was concealed by shrubs, rubbish bins and a tarpaulin.

Possibly the worst sounding place to hide them (im surprised no police officer just went into the back garden....)

Theres another bit where he was going to go off and found his own religion.... Hardly think this is a model member of american society
