hmm.
Seems microsoft will be wanting more cash :)

Now that the Xbox 360 Elite has officially dropped in price and killed off the Pro, it was only a matter of time before there'd be a new rumor to pin on Microsoft's console. ******, who previously listed the PlayStation 3 Slim a good 20 days before the official debut (it still has the same *********** as it did when leaked), has gone ahead and posted a new Xbox 360 model, ASIN in tow, with a 250GB HDD, two wireless controllers, and Forza Motorsport 3. Price is listed at 247 euros ($397), a good 30 euros over the current Elite price. No release date, but Forza 3 isn't due out until at least October 23rd so we'd say you got awhile to wait and see if this pans out. Any chance we can get a built-in WiFi router along with that extra storage space?

The mentioning / hinting of competitors is against the rules.

I think I read somewhere that a 250GB model had already passed the FCC (a regulatory body in USA) so it is going to appear down the line, just a question of when, and what it replaces.

Think the article was on engadget or some similar gaming blog.

Yeah this is on engadget too wasn't sure whether I could post that :)

This comes with Forza 3 too so it won't be fora while.

Actually, I am wrong :) The story you are listing is a new one (page 1 of their site atm, I won't link it as it refers to a retailer). But I am thinking of the FCC leak of the 250gb PS3 slim (not xbox!!) that was on their site last week.

Either way, looks like both MS and Sony will have 250GB units at some point. ;)

Do you think they will release a separate larger hard drive to sell in the coming months? If so, would not like to think how much it will cost considering the prices they have charged!

Yep,
Suppose I wouldn't pay for the PS3s as it can be changed yourself easily.

Only reason for large on 360 is the overpriced Games on demand.
As it's not the best media holder or streamer

I am sure if/when the 250GB Elite/360 appears you will be able to buy that drive on it's own as well. Otherwise Arcade or old Elite owners would not be able to upgrade to that capacity.

I don't think it is unlikely that it would cost say £120-£130 if it came out before xmas. The 60Gb drive with 3 months gold and a headset retails about £50-60 (I am guessing this may disappear as the Premium 360 is discontinued). The 120GB retails £80-£100. Maybe that will drop to about £70 and 250gb will be just over £100.

There is a limit to how much it can cost, for instance it cannot cost more than an actual console (Arcade is £160), as that would be seen as really bad value.

Anyway, just speculation. We will see.

I heart my 320GB PS3 HDD, I reckon I'm up to 200GB now and steadily rising!
If you use the system as heavily as I do, then I'd say that sort of size is essential.
All my MP3s, tons of video, tons of telly and I never have to worry about game installs.

And there i was thinking 120GB was overkill, can you store video files on the 360 hard drive yet? 250GB is the only real reason i could see someone needing that much space, surely a man doesn't need more than 10 games installed?

Anyway weird comments aside, meh. I will never fill up this 120Gb due to the following;

1) The 360 is awkward for playing video files back, so I never put any on it. (plus it can't even do HD content without awkward on the fly streaming crap from your PC)
2) It can't play .mkv so I will never have any of those on it.
3) I already have like 6 games installed and I only ever play one of them, 67Gb left.
4) Would never use my 360 for music as it's awkward for that too, plus my PC with the Xonar and headphones sounds far better.

1) and 2) you do not have a choice. Those files cannot be stored on the HDD, so you are not choosing not to put files on it, rather being prevented.

Wow it gets worse.

Same goes for my PS3 mind, that's why I've never used up much space on that. The fact it doesn't playback .mkv just kills all interest in doing so.

Yes. The only difference between the 2 is that even though you can mkv2vob the files, you can still only play them externally on the 360, but you can copy them to the PS3 drive IF you wanted. I did a long time ago for a certain TV show I liked. Now I can't be bothered as any time spent converting is time I could have just plugged my laptop into the TV and played the same file natively.

Yeah that is what I do, well with my PC anyway it's just much easier to load up VLC/MPC then drag the window over to my TV and play.

No hassle involved.
