Why is it so quiet?

I have to turn up my center speaker all the way in order to hear the speech, where as when I play stuff on my PC the volume levels are distributed perfectly.

Very annoying, I won't be using my PS3 for DVD's again as my PC DVD drive is flashed to play all regions (plus this issue is annoying), but still I don't understand the reason for the PS3's low volume output.

I have the sound setup correctly and I even had the DVD volume set to +4.

I know you said you set it up correct but have you checked output modes etc. I used to get this on some DVDs in my laptop, they were playing quietly as I had 5.1 or something setup whilst only having 2 speakers. Changed to stereo and it was fine.

Got everything setup correctly, games play normally and loud but DVD playback is much quieter and as I said the center speaker especially is very quiet.

Apparently you don't, otherwise you would not have this issue... :D

As has been said, double check the sound and DVD settings, make sure you have the correct formats selected for your audio hardware....

What way is the PS3 connected...
To a TV?
A Surround Amp?
A Stereo?

Via what type of connection...
HDMI?
Optical?
RCA?

Might help us diagnose the problem.

Have you got that silly audio level correction thing turned on? Forget the name but it's supposed to make the loud bits quieter and the quiet bits louder but i just found it made everything sound like ass.

I had volume level issues, switching that off helped a lot.

I get exactly the same issue mate, whenever I watch a DVD or Blu-Ray I've got to turn my volume all the way up to hear the blasted thing.

.

Of course I do I'm not an idiot. :o

I don't have that feature on Streeteh, I would guess you mean the "Dynamic Normalizer"? that is in the music settings though so I don't think it would make any difference to DVD.

My speakers are setup just fine, I get either a DTS or DD 5.1 feed but as said, the volume on DVD's is so low, it's annoying having to adjust the center speaker volume on the PS3 but not on anything else as it doesn't save the settings for the speakers per input.

Will just stick to PC from now on, only thing I like about using the PS3 was that I could use the controller instead of having to get up and hit DVD menus with my mouse.

Edit: Just forgot I can control Media Player Classic from my iPhone, now I have no reason to use the PS3 for them at all.

I just hope Blu-Ray doesn't have the same issue, but I rarely watch them on my PS3 either so meh.

It's even worse when you forget you put the volume up for a DVD, then turn it off and the next morning go to play a game and get an earful. :D

DVD's / Bluray's are quieter than games / downloaded videos on the PS3 but it shouldn't be enough to cause your speakers any trouble.

For example I have mine going though optical to a normal 5.1 DTS / DD amp and while games are loud with volume set to 30/35, with a dvd it needs to be about 50/55.
