Well, for anyone that's mildly interested - here's a couple of shots of the repair to the Merc's rear end, post "g/f vs tree" incident. :(

Sanded the filler/putty down with 400/600/1200 grit wet and dry, pretty much ready for painting now - should be able to borrow a single width garage for it on Monday, just hoping there's enough room to maneouver around the back to get a decently thin spray coverage.

Well, I hope you are still going to do some more prep-work, as that really isn't ready for paint yet.

Thoughts as to why so?

The patchiness isnt actually any level difference, its the difference in colour between old P38 filler and new Knifing putty.

Feels pretty smooth now after 1200 grit, but I am quite a novice at this so I'm open to any suggestions. It's getting a few coats of grey primer first, then Halfords-mixed Teallit metallic blue from a can - hoping to avoid any runs.
