Hi Folks

My partner and I recently got engaged and we are starting to think about the wedding plans. We have decided that we want to get married away, ideally in St Lucia

We got up this morning with the plan of heading round the holiday shops as we have decided that we want to get married away. We visited a couple of shops and have come away with the idea of going to St Lucia. They gave us some prices and said all the usual stuff like they wouldn't be beaten on price but i personally thin k it can be done for cheaper than what they were quoting.

Basically the package we liked was heading to St Lucia Sandals resort and for the two of us for 10 days we were looking at £4500 approx. We also want to have our close family there which is adding another four people for 7 days, this worked out at £3400 for the others. This was all fully board so as much as you can eat and drink and included everything we need.

I just feel this seems rather pricey and would like to ask if anyone knows another way of going about this instead of going through the high street chains. Or just anyone who has done this and how you found the experience?

Thanks a lot

I wouldn't like to get married in the caribbean, only last year that doctor couple was shot dead there on their honeymoon.

No one in their right mind would plan an Indian Ocean honeymoon that took them cruising off the coast of Somalia, where the murderous activities of pirates – storming holiday yachts armed with AK47s – have been well publicised.
Similarly, no one would lead their beloved into the ganglands of LA. But what about the so-called holiday paradises that can be just as dangerous, but manage to play down their frightening crime rates?

We went to a relatives wedding in the Dominican Republic. I'm not sure if it HAS to be done but they had to pay about £1000 to get the papers translated into Spanish. Lucian's speak French I think?

I beleive all the paper work costs is included in the final figure, it's all taken care off, we just need to turn up :)

Is this post supposed to be a joke?

No.

Most of us going abroad go with stars in our eyes at the best of times, even more so if we’ve just married. Conditions we’d balk at at home seem alluring. No locks on the doors? An Eden. No mobile reception? How relaxing. Yet if something went wrong, all those elements could suddenly turn terrifyingly sinister.

Have you ever been to the Caribbean? You have locks on the doors and you have mobile coverage. Stop being a melodramatic idiot.

I got married just down the coast from Wakiki Beach in Hawaii. Best decision i ever made. The actual wedding part was only around £500 on top of what the holiday would have been. Spent time in San Francisco and Las Vegas too.

Yes I have been. I didn't see any locks on my 5 star villa door nor did the doctors who got shot dead had any locks on their door. For example Antigua as a tropical haven, unaware of the fact that last year there were a record 19 murders on the island of tourists last year.

For every paradise found, there is a paradise lost

P.S. You are right everyone who disagrees with you is a melodramatic idiot.

Well basically the way they did it was 2 weeks in DR and the wedding was in the first week with the 'honeymoon' in the second week, even though all the family was still there. Everyone paid for their own 'holiday' and if it was me, I wouldn't be paying for family to go. They either pay for themselves or they miss it.

How much do people pay for weddings in England? Too much would be my answer. We had a great time and it was better than any wedding I've attended in the UK.

Don't talk BS Zhivago. It's dangerous if you go to the dangerous places. I've been 3 times to Dom. Rep. and every time we were warned about going out of the complex. The guards at the gate of the hotel actually walked around with huge machetes but it really isn't as dangerous as you make it out to be. And there isn't anything really worth seeing on the streets. They basically live in slums. Stay in the hotel.

No, not everyone. You are though.

Incidentally had a search for the story about the honeymooners and notice where you stole your original post from:

Can you not even speak for yourself and have to copy posts from newspaper articles to make yourself try and sound clever?

You say don't talk BS then you prove me right with the guards needing huge machetes! Also Dom Rep is the poor man's caribbean. Richer tourists (as me) don't stay in complexs, they stay in villas and most of them don't even have a lock on the door!

P.S. wicksta thanks for proving me right, 1+ rep

Let's face it you've never been to the Caribbean and you are assuming there are not locks on the doors or no mobile coverage everywhere based on the article you stole your post from. I have been to the Caribbean (Antigua and Tobago) and always had a lock on the door and always had mobile coverage.

I have no reason to lie and never have done, and since you are the one calling me a liar the burden of proof is on you, so I am waiting for your proof I haven't been. Go on be "an hero" and show my "lie"

P.S. Thanks for finding newspaper link I forgot where I read that from last year.

Wow you must have a good memory to have posted the entire paragraph word for word a year later.

So where did you stay then exactly? I'll see if they have locks and mobile coverage if you like to prove that you are telling the truth to people who might thing you are a lying **** which apparently you are not. :)

Oh dear. :D

The complex's ARE where 'richer tourists' (I doubt you are one, little troll) stay. Most of them are 5* with their own beaches. Get out of your bedroom and explore the World and stop copying and pasting crap from Newspaper websites.
