Bad News for Shell Mastercard from Citi Cardholders

The Amex platinum card looks to be the best but is still rubbish, 1.25% and only paid out annually - barely worth bothering with.

P'd off :(

EPIC FAIL!!!!! Thats my citicard gone to the cleaners...time to find a better deal, time for Amex Platinum methinks.

They've shot themselves in the foot a bit I think - I won't be loyal to Shell any more, I'll just fill up wherever I happen to be when I need fuel as there isn't the 3% incentive, and they've changed the Drivers Club scheme to make that rubbish too.

I guess they realised it was unsustainable and they were losing a fortune so that's why they've changed it.

Precisely what I will be doing. I used to go slightly out of my way to go to a shell garage to use my citibank card and shell drivers club card.

Looks like as soon as it changes rates I'll be back to filling up wherever I happen to be.

Shame really as I made about £70 cashback over the last 11 months lol :D

that is indeed a shame... I will probably cancell mine aswell. This was my first ever card if i ditch it does it affect my credit score?

No, of course it doesn't. Might want to make sure you get accepted for a replacement card before cancelling it though.

I'll be collecting almost £200 from my first year's use, so cannot complain. I try to pay absolutely everything with it.

Just a heads up guys, received a letter from CitiBank today saying that the Shell Mastercard has been withdrawn from 1st Jan 2010. So won't even be seeing the 1% cashback anymore on shell purchases.

They are switching it to a Platinum card apparently.

Same here, luckily my work have started doing 5% off at sainsburys on everything so will just be using that discount for my petrol from now on!

Well, since this withdrawal i have now retired the citicard and am using an Amex Platinum cashback card. 5% for a little while on everything is building up massively, then its 1.25% after that.

Best of a bad bunch i guess and the card looks snazzy. :o Cant see any way of achieving any further fuel discounts unless waitrose start giving out 5% vouchers as some others do :p

I got an Amex Platinum too, hit the cap for the 5% cash-back within about 6 weeks, should easily get well into 1.25% territory on most of my other spending.

For everything else there's my Egg card with 1% back.
