I'd like to get the best gfx card for under £100 thats suitable to my situation. I only have a 370W PSU, and at the moment have a cheap 3450, which unfortunately can't play cod4 at a decent enough frame rate on even a 1028 resolution. Can someone recommend a gfx card that i can get for £100 or less that would be able to run on a 370W PSU? Is this even possible, or should i just stick with the 3450 until i get the cash together to change the PSU as well!?
 
i would suggest getting a new psu that seems a bit low it might run the card sure.. but you will be stressing it out a lot and in the end the outcome might not be so good.
 
maybe a 2nd hand 8800gt/gts for 40-50 sheets and a new psu (i'm totally out of the loop with psus these days though. i have no idea what to recommend. :p)
 
My current PSU is an enermax eg375a. If a 370W PSU isn't enough these days for the gfx cards mentioned in this thread, can someone tell me the least amount of W the PSU i'll look for should have?

I agree that the power supply you have is a bit old but it looks like it has 2x 12v rails, I personally think it could run a Radeon 4850 (around £80) or similar card without exploding :P
 
Wont run one a 370W. Heck neither will a 4850.

I have run one with a 330 watt, I run a x1950 on a 200 watt and three 8800's on 450 watts. It all depends on what PSU it is.


I would be careful with the new 8800gt Eco cards, they need more power than a PCI-E 1.1 slot can supply. If you have a modern dual rail PSU with two limited 12v supplys then you could run into problems.

For starters it's a 9800GT Eco, secondly if it needed more power than a pci-e slot to power, then it would have a seperate pci-e six pin power connector, which it doesn't have. pci-e v1.0 v1.1 and v2.0 all supply 75 watts to the slot. If you have proof to prove the contrary then I'd be very interested to see it :)

EDIT: just had a look at the zotac 9800 GT eco's specification and even that states it backwards compatible with pci-e v1.1 linky
