Are you proud of Britain??

You realise that people are communicating on an informal basis when on a message board, right? Unless it's illegible then it's irrelevant.

Are you saying that someone who had learned proper English, grammar etc. would deliberately lower their standard and spell things incorrectly (with the more common errors, intrusive R's etc, usually indicative of not paying attention in school) just because they were on a message board and not writing a letter to the Queen?

No, you have even quoted part of what I am saying, so why ask?

To clarify it for you, people don't deliberately do it, but because it's an informal way to communicate, there is no reason for correcting every last spelling and capital letter. I make loads of typing errors, something I don't do when I write on paper. Something I try and correct on here when I notice it and something I ALWAYS sort when I am writing formally.

Yes, some people can't spell, but as long as you can actually understand what they are trying to say, and in your case you can because you clearly have a good grasp of English, then their is no problem. A hefty proportion of the grammar police remarks on here contain spelling errors anyway!

The general population are a bunch of whining, alcoholic, ignorant, ASBO-dodging plebs who only live by one rule. "Look after no.1, and let no.1 look after you."

The country is in an economic shambles, yet we still put up with this retarded government who think that spending billions on ID cards and biological databases to fight non-existant "terrorism" is the best thing to do right now. Not to mention our unelected leader is a one-eyed Scotsman who cannot smile without looking like a rapist.

We live in a country that lets in millions of immigrants, who then turn around and tell us that our soldiers are all vermin for going to war, and we're all going to die, and our country will become an Islamic state once they've taken control. Oh, and speaking out against this gets you branded a "racist" for good measure.

If you own a car you're treated like a cow ready for milking. Speed cameras everywhere, meaning motorists are spending more time looking at their speedo than the road itself. Police hiding behind hedges with speed guns, speed bumps that slowly destroy your car, extortionate insurance fees for young male drivers (legal sexism) and stupidly high petrol prices and road tax.

This country is full of overzealous politically-correct morons who ban nursery rhymes for having the word "black" in them. God forbid you should dare fly the Union Jack outside your house, didnt you know? It means you're a kerb-stomping, skinhead neo-nazi.

I actually agree with all this

We have a unique way of dissing our own values / ways, but when it comes down to it I think all of us are proud to be British!

If, say, Germany declared war ((vague example)) we'd all be fighting for our country and its sovereignty without as much as thought!

Its only parts of our social lifestyles that a lot of us hate, chavs etc etc etc, and of course the shameful politicians a loft in Westminster.

Poll would be good:

If a passing admin/don could add one, it would show what sort of % of people are proud of Britain. (pretty please)

1) Proud of Britain and being British.
2) Proud of Britain but with reservations.
3) Not proud of what Britain has become.
4) Could not care less; patriotism etc is a pile of poo!

Very, very bad choices.

As you can be 1 and 3, 2 and 3 etc.

I'm not proud of this country, I'm disgusted with it.

Hardly, there are more old people than young for one thing so alcoholic chavs aren't what I'd call the "general population"

Agreed.

Errr what?

All true, I agree

That's a made-up myth. People pretend that that's due to political correctness when it just isn't. Red-top newspaper sensationalism.

I don't like the following aspects of britain:

1) Chavs - who likes chavs? they are despicable.
2) Jeremy Kyle -related to 1)
3) too much immigration, I'm no racist but we should really only allow people into the country who bring something to the table.
4) benefits to people who do NOT deserve them - this to me is a big problem and it will only get worse unless something is done. People claiming benefits earning more than people who work, leading to people who work leaving their jobs to claim benefits instead.
5) Population. One day we will have too many people living in this country, population will expand exponentially I can't see it being sustainable in the long term (100-200 years down the line)
6) Public spending going into useless things that no one needs, sort out the health care systems and public transport before spending millions on statues etc
7) political correctness gone insane - I have seen some ridiculous examples of this

best reply in this thread, agree with everything you've said, main thing people taking advantage of the system, its a joke...

Proud no. Pride come before a fall ;) do I consider myself to have been lucky to have been in the UK yes. But national boundires are an illusion nowdays. The global bankers run everything and they recognise no national boundries hence the big puch for the nwo.

7) Such as?

I aint a patriot, but i'd rather live here than with a bunch of capitalist swine or religious nutjobs.
Our people are crap, always complaining about everything, being selfish ****'s, chavs.
Our food isn't top notch, english dishes always overcook meat.
We haven't got any industry, but then again, thats short sighted capitalists looking for a quick buck.
Hipocrisy, people moan about paying tax then moan that public services are crap.
And depression, theres too many boring old farts voting conservative and focusing on all the bad and none of the good, daily mail readers, you know the ones. The sort of bloke who gives you a dirty look for having long hair or not working in a cushy office job, stuff like that.

But it's alright, our cultures pretty rock and roll, lots of drinking and drugs. And how if I tell an offensive joke I don't get stoned to death or called a devil worshipper (why would I worship something I don't believe in?). It's not brilliant but I have a laugh.

It's interesting to see everyone be so negative about the UK. Firstly, in my view we have a lot of things to be proud about, a world class education system (that's why most universities seem like the UN) and a free health care system. The latter comes in for a lot of stick - but believe me when you need it for something serious you'll take back your words.

Culture wise - there are problems - as in most countries. But the old saying "the grass is always greener on the other side" I think applies.

You might think it's harsh in the UK, imagine your where in the US, you'd just lost your job and have a serious medical condition - you'd be stuffed. Not in the UK though.

Whilst I'm equally annoyed with the idiots that form the majority of this country, it's an unavoidable consequence of attempting to create greater social equality.

At the end of the day, you shouldn't be looking down on the UK, but the total spuds who ruin it. Most of the problems raised in this thread are by idiots who abuse the relative freedom that people died to protect. I don't think this country is as screwed as people think it is. We just need to
[A] Control our youth.
Control immigration
[C] Everyone of us needs to get off our backside and work, even if it's only voluntary in these times.

People are getting lazier and lazier and unfortunately there's no punishment or deterrent for them not to do so.

If we get a strong leader, with decent morals and a clue about what is happening in the real world - this country will be back to itself in no time.
