Can someone try to see if they're able to sign up for their service?

Want to see if it's a case of them just not liking me, or whether there really is something up with them.

from another thread....

Really not impressed by UK online. Their broadband application system (both online and phone based) has been down for over a week and a half so I still haven't signed up with them.

This really gives a terrible first impression for them =/

whole system down for that long? i can't quite believe how a business could be so inept. :D

Well to give you a bit of background, started about 3 weeks ago, first thing, my number wasn't in their database, so finally got that sorted after about a week, only to find as Kreeeee says the online system went down and hasn't been backup since. Phoned them up and they aren't able to sign you up over the phone either (!), uses the same system apparently. The guy took my details and told me that someone from the next level up in services or some such department would call back to do a manual sign up, but no such luck.

Supposedly it's something to do with people signing up on the website to get free UKonline email addresses or something to then spam with. Can't see how it would take so long to disable that functionality though on the webpage.

I've phoned them almost everyday, being quoted "It will be sorted tomorrow". They gave me the same bull about someone calling me back too.

I'm still on 3G internet and getting really annoyed at their lack of service.

Unless you can get there LLU,avoid like the plague, or like the plague with chicken pox, seriously. I tried them, and all I can say is I was so glad to just manage to escape before I was locked into contract! The BT supplied service is HORRENDOUS.
Poor speed and pings nearly all the time, evening periods where you can barely use the service. The only saving grace is the support generally actually are reasonably helpful...the service itself though is a nightmare.

Im on the bt based service, no issues at all, I'm getting the full speed I pay for and pings are normal for an ADSL Max service (~35ms to my clan TF2 server).

Even had newsgroups running flat out for days with no problems.

No, they told me 8Mb would be on their llu service too. :)

They lied. LLU is the 16mb service, the 8MB service is standard BT (normally, may be exchange dependant though, but they do put you on ADSL Max, not ADSL2). The standard BT is pretty hideous; the amount of complaints about it over on think broadband are pretty huge, and I had just the same experience as a fresh subscriber. Some people may be lucky; but its not a good service overall, somewhere betweeen 100Kbps-1Mbps was common between about 5/6pm-12pm. Absolutely hideous to use, and pings were best part of 100ms just to jolt, with added packet loss.

Authentication server issues; slow speeds, packet loss, high pings, over subscription, you name it. Swapped back to Enta and all is rosey, Im on a country side exchange too, so contention on the local exchange likely wasn't my issue with UKOnline either.

Also, my comment about non-LLU was quite simple; I, along with many other people, can't get it, not every exchange is LLU, infact the majority aren't, I didnt mean you'd get BT over LLU :D

Zarf - you're a very lucky man :)

um no. i think you're wrong. if it the exchange is LLU enabled, they will put 8mb customers on it. putting them on BT when they have their own kit in the exchange would be ******** money down the drain.

I put in a disclaimer on that, in general, my understanding is they will put you onto the BT system unless LLU is available, whereby it varies. In general for the majority of people that's BT though.

Ergo, 8Mb can be LLU/BT, whereas 16Mb will only ever be LLU atm. Hope that makes sense, I was commenting on Kree's comment that 8MB would be LLU, whereupon it actually varies, and a lot of people would find themselves with an over subscribed (and this comes from an internal UKOnline memo!) BT service, which they don't intend to improve. From what I've seen at samknows, whilst LLU coverage is growing, its still less than half the exchanges in the UK.

To clarify, UKonline CC is pretty decent, 12m contracts are nasty, LLU is meant to be very good, but thier BT product; which is a large percentage of up to 8Mb users, is pretty poor.

It depends what they're offering rather than what you're taking. If they're offering an up to >8Mbps service, it's probably via LLU and if the most they'll give you is up to 8Mbps it's possible it's via BT Wholesale (but then they could be using WBC ergo ADSL2+ as well).

Edit: They're not offering 8 or 16MB to anyone. That would be 64Mbps or 128Mbps, which neither ADSL nor ADSL2+ can do.

Sorry, MB not Mb was a typo :) Im at work and typing quickly.
The premium package is up to 8Mb, whilst the premier package is up to 16Mb. The 16Mb package is LLU afaik, whilst premium seems to be either dependant on exchange availability.

Anyway, without derailing the topic; the BT Wholesale UKOnline variant is poor, very poor, which has been admitted internally...research and avoid!

Alex... they told me the information based on my local exchange, which they should always do when making a direct inquiry. If I got any service with them at my house it will be LLU, I thought that was obvious :p
