So I was looking up insurance quotes for me (DirectLine), to get an idea of the ball park, how much it might cost me if I got a 3 series BMW (not going to happen for a long while yet though!). Anyway, 8000 miles annual usage, 3 years or more passed, age 21, 1 year no claims, car value 5000 (320d 2000 se 1951cc 4dr) etc etc. Which gives me a quote of £681.45, fully comp. So I switch it to TPFT, and I get.. wait for it.. £814.80??:confused::confused:

Any ideas what's going on?

Edit: Just tried reducing my fully comp excess from 350 to 150 (now same as TPFT excess), and added a guaranteed hire car, and fully comp goes up to £779.10 - still well short

Directline is totally screwed. I've always had terrible quotes from them but my mate always gets great quotes.

Turns out they're much bigger fans of 1.1l fiestas than 2.5l mondeos :(

direct line are a bunch of **** and are really not worth the hassel. a good company is Admiral they are better. plus you dont pay an excess on TPFT thats why its more than comp

Well I can't really complain about them, £450 insurance for a 1.4l pug at 20yrs 0NCB isn't bad! And I'm fairly sure I would've noticed if it'd been cheaper for me to get fully comp *looks shifty*

Admiral just gave me a quote of £1203.50 fully comp and 1143.65 TPFT for the same car etc, so I think I'll take DirectLine over them by about £500 :p

try calling a company called Brentacre. Type in google and they are a welsh company who let you mod your car cosmetically for free, like tints, changing alloys, lowering springs etc. Only problem is they aint open till tuesday now

Luckily for me I have no desire to modify my car cosmetically, consequently having an insurance company who don't charge for it will likely be more expensive on the non-cosmetically modified cars to make up for it ;)

Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.

well believe it or not for me including my modifications they were the cheapest by loads. Thay specialise in German, Jap, classic and modified cars so your BMW could be rather cheap

I'll bear them in mind if/when I consider getting one a bit more seriously then, I can't be bothered to phone people for quotes, was just wondering roughly how much it'd set me back if I got one next week.
