Who is right windows 7 or you?

I don't know eher this should go but recently I got the "Ultima Panther" Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz DDR3 System and on the system settings panel it shows up as 2.8 Ghz not 4.0 any Idea why?

In systems and maintenance it shows my i7 is @ 2.67 when i know its running at 4ghz. to show the overclocked speed its best using CPU-Z and/or look in the bios.

Yes - Windows reads the stock speed of the CPU, not the actual speed.

In addition, you may see CPU speed fluctuations in CPU-Z if SpeedStep/C1E are on.

Sorry for the long time to post but I decided to check the BIOS and it's reporting a clock of 3.8 =/ very close I have to admit but I sorta wanted you guys to overclock so I wouldn't have to worry about it...but I'm not even getting that by real temp either.

With Turbo it should go up to near 4Ghz.

My windows 7 displays the CPU model followed by stock speed followed by actual speed -
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz 3.20GHz

Make sure turbo is on, run CPU-Z and then run something that will use the CPU incase speedstep or similiar is running and see what the speed jumps to... if its saying much under 4gig then, then you'd best get back to where you bought it from if it was sold as 4gig.

Download CPU-Z, run something that loads the processor and see what it says under core speed.

LMAO I didn't check the voltage on it and it was set to auto so every time I was turning it on it was over volting and then going to default clock....

Windows always gets confused about the OC speed if you're not running the same FSB as the chip was designed for. I did raise this as a bug during the open beta of Win7, but doesn't look like it's been changed.

I have had to reset the BIOS to stock levels as I was starting to get blue screens

It sounds like it wasn't fully stable to begin with, you'll probably have a lot more luck aiming for 3.8ghz but you did pay for 4ghz...

I know and that's the thing that is annoying me as the differnce to get 4.0 from 3.8 is £50 which for me is a new mouse and keyboard

Post in the customer support forum they may give you some settings to try or at least refund you the £50 difference.

I bet you have got 4Ghz OC. Hit F12 in the bios and load the profile saved there. If you then just post a screen of CPU-Z we can see your BLCK speed and then work out your OC even though you cant figure out how to load it.

I had it in on the 28th which is a thursday by my reckoning
