Spa-Francorchamps - BELGIUM Grand Prix 2009 - Race 12/17

Only as Piquet was dropped before Badoer got a go :p

Piquet wasnt "that" bad. His problem wasnt his flat speed, but the fact that he would regularly crash/spin out. Though this may have been down to the continuous pressure, brought on by the continuous talk of his imminent sacking.

Badoer on the other hand is plain slow. Even if he has a perfect race - no car problems, no spins, no extraordinary events - he will finish last, due to his fundamental lack of speed.

About kimi going off track: The route he went is actually longer / more dirty than the normal route, so I think its something that is accepted. If it was a chicane, it would be a different matter :)

Problem for Badoer and rookies is they're not used to all the steering wheel adustments, KERS, and wing adjustments during a race. The drivers do a lot more at the wheel these days and the cars sustain a much higher cornering speed that takes a special frame of mind to get used to.

The down side for Badoer is he's too long gone to ever get used to that.

This is the big problem. it is a massive step up form the likes of GP2, in performance, technology and stuff to do. i cant remember who but one of the drivers was saying the the cars are easy to drive within a few seconds of the pace but insanely hard to drive on the limit because when an F1 car goes it goes and there isn't much you can do about it.

bring back a few testing days. tag them onto some race weekends to give the rookies and testers a drive.

Exactly, it doesn't seem like he needed to be told to crash :p

Why would anyone pay attention to that fact? It's much more fun just to make biting and witty observations about pro-Ferrari bias.

Hahaha, i just like a good piquet joke really....

Your right Badoer was just plain slow, they shouldnt have raced him this weekend (he was more or less a mobile chicane) but piquet was only about 10-15% better, just for being younger and more on it (plus all the crashing).

Anyway im interested to know who gets the Ferrari seat in a few weeks (i dont think it'll be fisi unless theres BIG money involved).

It maybe longer and more dirty, but he still managed to make up at least 1 place :)

I'll bet dollars to donuts that it won't be Fisichella, not unless they plan on locking him into a long-term contract. After all, he's a driver at a rival team.

They might give Marc Gené a run I suppose.

I bet Fisi just became more expensive. ;)

Fisi if Ferrari want to buy him out from his Force India contract or Gene I suppose. Unless Jake is on to something and DC's in with a shout? :D

I guess DC would still be able to do a half decent job... and it wouldn't cost huge amounts to buy him out of his BBC/Red Bull commitments. I can't see it being GF - It would cost a lot to buy him out of his Force India contract, and then who would they run? Given today's performance there's every chance the Force India would be faster than the Ferrari in Monza anyway! Gene? Well they chose Badoer last time!

Who else? Bruno Senna, Sebastien Bourdais? What about Jacques Villeneuve? He's meant to be in talks with teams for 2010.

DC already counted himself out over the commentary this afternoon (and I dont think he would have said it so quickly if he didnt already believe it to be the case)

Fisi would be a good move, but Im wondering now that FI is a pretty decent car whether Fisi is worth more where he is than any money Ferrari is worth offering for 5 races

After all - if what the BBC team said that every constructers place is worth $3m or so, how many more places can they realistically move up - maybe above BMW / Renault who are on double the points FI are on ? tough call - depending on what remainder of Fisi's contract is worth to start with

Actually believe it will be someone young - I doubt Piquet though even though its a no lose situation for both parties

Personally, the best thing that Ferrari could do is bring Alonso into Ferrari early. They will have to pay a tidy sum for this privilege, but by doing so, Alonso will be used to the workings of the team before the start of next season. Moreover, he will be much more likely to be ready to win races, from the word go, if he is allowed to move to Ferrari immediately.

IF Alonso has signed for Ferrari from 2010 then Ferrari should try and get him into Ferrari for Monza. Alonso's deal at Renault ends at the end of this season yes? So a 2010 move to Ferrari for Alonso won't cost Ferrari anything in ending a deal early. So they could spend some money on ending his Renault contract now.
