Well its a trailer actually or just more of a visual montage. The actual video is too long for Youtube and isn't finished yet anyway.

This is a video we made for our University course.

I did not do the visual effects to this but I did edit the script, cast it, co-direct, sound record and cut together this trailer. There was only me and one other person/student making this (who basically did everything else including the visuals of course).

Anyway, tell me what you think, be of the technical aspects, etc or anything.

I have to agree, the music isn't amazing imo. But I do like the video, starts of kina like Blade Runner and then a bit of Sin City style shiz. good.

Going to be a bit negative really.
It would be nice to see a section from the actual film, as otherwise it looks like just another YouTube 'trailer film', where it's purely just a collection of scenes with no actual proper film shot.

Is it a VFX course?
As with there being a VFX shot for every shot of the trailer, it makes it feel a bit like somebody's comp showreel.

Not bad, I would have made a heavier link between the city and the people by inserting a single scene:

Corner of the street with brick walls and soft lighting on the wall opposite making a silluette. The figure is leaning with his back to the wall, the long coat keeping the rain off and a broad hat keeping the rain off and stopping the light from totally illuminating the face.
The camera is placed further up the street and the guy turns to look around and you see the dull blue eyes under the hat before he turns away to look the other way as if he's not see you.
Cut to a city panning..

Loved the car shot with the rain and lights.

I like the music. Gives a really dark and eerie feeling, I love these types of films and would love to get into making them myself. Well done.

There is some nice filming especially the car and telephone box sequences but the editing doesn’t convey what the film is about and it does look like a set of unrelated clips.

Good film work, god awful music, sounds like cheap low quality midi instruments

I was going to say the same thing, though mabye a little more softly :D:o

If you want this chior sound, you'll have to get a chior in to perform it or at least find some higher quality sample than the GM patch. Adding some more sounds around it will create a denser atmosphere and draw attention away from the sample quality a bit too. Some more adventurous chords would be good to hear too, sounds a bit like someone just playing on a keyboard for one of thier first times.

Direction/video is good though, some nice dramatic shots. Opening scene is awfully reminiscent of Blade Runner mind...

There's a sort of flickering effect on the fence at 0:11-0:12. Is that deliberate?

Music was more like an intro that never actually reached the main theme. I expected it to build tension, but it didn't. Explosion at the end was a bit blah. No apparent connection between clips, so no continuity and therefore too random.

Trailer feels like a cut scene from Syndicate but without a coherent story. Stunning visuals, though.

i thought it to be vey well made, again like other people have suggested the music could do with a little work, and maybe a bit of a hint of story slotted in, but it is just a teaser trailer so does exactly what its suppose to do and not really reveal anything so good work.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The music isn't great but I'd struggled to find anything unlicensed and better. If anyone knows of anything though I'd appreciate it.

The trailer is ambiguous mainly 'cos I just shoved the non-dialogue effects shots together rather than bother to promote any kind of a story (seeing as its only fifteen minutes long in total). It's more of an effect demo than a trailer.

I could have written you far better music :)

Honestly, if you want to send me a track, I'd be all for it. :)

wow i have got to admit that was awesomely well made...what did you use to edit it if u dont mind me asking. that was just brilliant!

Affect Effects for the visuals and Final Cut for the editing.

Probably an upload error or something.

Fair enough. I could have done more of an action build up.

its very good, i think you have got it spot on and have achieved your aim in the trailer. Yes theres no action or anything but lets face it, its not like films only have 1 trailer/teaser, it wouldnt be unheard of for an eerie type of one to be released and then a more action packed one to be released. Very good SFX. Camera placement and styling is effective too.

From someone who also did similar at uni. Its very polished.
